  • So, if you subscribe to the $10/ month plan you get $10 worth of tokens to use within a month, and if you subscribe to the $49/month plan you get $49 worth of tokens to use within a month.

    At this point why subscribe? Just pay directly the tokens so if you use less you pay less.

    To me it doesn't make sense to subscribe at $49 and maybe use $30 of tokens.

    People were subscribing at the $49 plan because they were using $1000 in tokens worth

    If they used some kind of containerization, the native packages available for the hosts do not affect the specific version of MySQL that they want to use

It's their phone, not our phones) and hide the option somewhere in the menus in the next months. It will be buried behind three scary warnings then the user has to remember to come back after 24 hours to continue. But then it will be disabled on that specific device, it seems

  • Your approach is wrong.

    You change apps because the devs don't want to bow to Google, while it's the opposite that needs to be done.

    Just set your phone to skip this "verification" bullshit, in this way Google can see from the telemetry that the 0.01% of users disagree with their policy

  • Problem of free tier is just to entice devs in the hope that one of them likes the infrastructure and works at a whale

    If you use the free tier too much they close it because you used it too much and exceeded their fair use policy

    If instead you don't use it enough, they close it for inactivity

    (Of course the application needs to support this, if you do this with a normal database it will break immediately)

  • S3 is designed for being used by applications via API, for example you can easily save and retrieve files from it even with a JavaScript application. It is much more difficult to do the same with sshfs

    If instead you use it mounted on a computer, S3 is worse because each time you need to list its contents that's an API request, if you have hundreds of thousands of files then it's thousands of API reuqests

  • They're the ones running a 10 years old database on a 11 years old os in a public facing server "because it just works", not me

    If it was a container, they could just tag a new version when the database went EOL 5 years ago, without being locked on what the package manager was offering

    Because they used MySQL 5 on CentOS 7 from the package manager and couldn't easily upgrade

    $60 billion to acquire a vs code fork (free, open source) and all of their subscribers, which most of them are using more tokens than what they actually pay monthly

    The business models of all this vscode forks (cursor, windsurf) is the exit strategy (operate at a heavy loss hoping for an idiot CEO acquiring them)

    A company with lots of talented engineers like SpaceX and unlimited money could build an identical product in weeks at a fraction of the cost, without the heavy burden of users using opus for "free" in the subscription

  • Yes but they do zero tests on the build, if it compiles, it ships. For example it crashes if you try to open a file dialog and the copilot button is not working and can't be hidden
