  • I think it's absolutely wild how archaic some systems are. And the worst offenders are those regulated by financial and medical industry laws. I have an account with one financial account that is protected only by password that is 12 characters max with special characters limited to just a few. I don't know how they haven't been breached and then sued into oblivion.

    I'm fine with companies enforcing 2FA. Bitwarden is addressing the current weakest link in the chain: users.

  • When you say "Chinese" becomes lingua franca, do you mean Mandarin? Cantonese? Yue? Hakka? Other? If Mandarin, do you mean Jilu? Jiaolio? Other?

    I don't think "Chinese" or any sinitic language ever becomes the global language. Translation is becoming so simple, I would expect any new global initiative can work in 3-4 languages simultaneously.

    UN headquarters relocating - I think it would be more likely the UN collapses and is replaced by something else with China leading.

    The Chinese movie industry is already huge, we just don't see much of it in the US.

    Lots of Chinese people aren't into fengshui. That's kind of a bizarre stereotype for you to pick out of everything mentioned.

    The aerospace industry in China has a ways to go before they can be classified in the same tier as Airbus. They are getting better, but still heavily rely on borrowing designs instead of creating their own.

    What I actually hope is the idea of a single global superpower dies completely. It's not even the current reality for the US; it's just propaganda.

    I will take someone responding with "qwar means qwar" as they know it's a homophobic slur and they're trying to be hateful while dodging the social repercussions of being a bigot.

  • Some of their older lyrics had some homophobic bullshit in them, for which they have since apologized. I read one such apology from one of them and it felt pretty genuine to me, FWIW.

    So Juggalos I would expect to be inclusive of LGBT+ people, but no group that big is going to be perfectly in lock step on something like that.

    And men vetted by peer men? The ones who are a sampling that will absolutely include some of the toxic online variety we are all trying to avoid?

    I simply think initial vetting will never be enough. People aren't dumb, they are able to behave until they have someone alone before showing their true colors. My real skepticism is that any Fediverse platform would have strong controls to identify and actually block bad people. Mainstream dating platforms have processes to deal with stalkers and sexual assaulters, they permanently block people from the platform and contact local law enforcement at times. A federated dating platform would have none of those things, unless they're attached to a major corporation like Threads is to Facebook, which would defeat the purpose.

  • You have way more faith in humanity than I do. I think after 1-2 and the novelty wears off, a lot of people would just thumbs up without reading.

    And even if people stay diligent in rating first comments, it will take 0.2 seconds for bad actors to realize they can just save their bullshit for message #2.
