I remember Reddit and Twitter constantly suffering from uptime issues and they were far more decentralized, with modern infrastructure to match.

This year (2024), changes in state election laws mean that many Americans are facing different voting requirements than they did in 2020. Since the last presidential election, at least 29 states have enacted dozens of laws that, among other things, make voter ID rules stricter, reduce opportunities to vote by mail, and make ballot collection and voter assistance more difficult.

Maybe everything will need to be translated from Chinese.

Republicans have proved, time and time again, that you can salvage a shit election year by blasting "AAAAAH! TRANSGENDER ATHLETES!" 24/7 for three months straight. And if your opponents decide to run a bunch of geriatric cancer-ridden chucklefucks against you, there's a better than average chance you'll win.
That's before entrenched partisans in the municipal/state bureaucracies straight up do election fraud to tip the scales. One favorite down in the Lone Star State is to send over voting machines that don't work to big liberal polling venues. I don't think I've seen an election in which the HBU voting venue didn't have a line 4+ hours long, because they only had two machines running for tens of thousands of (predominantly black) people. Maybe we even get a few arrests, like Ken Paxton did to Hervis Rogers, the last man to cast a ballot on the longest election night in Texas history.
If you ever wonder why mail-in voting was viciously crushed by reactionaries in US government, it stems from the ease at which a handful of insiders can fuck with electronic machines relative to paper mail-in ballots.

They've also been sold a bill of goods about how the economy is supposed to work. And they'll continue to accept the Republican ideological orthodoxy, for the same reason a Christian will keep prayer or an Oaklan A's fan will keep cheering straight into the grave.
When the economy is good, it's because Republicans did the right thing. When the economy is bad, it's because of external forces hostile to the US or an insidious Fifth Column of undercover leftists sabotaging things. Bad economic news isn't going to change your adherence to dogmatic beliefs, particularly when you're dealing with a macro-economic problem that has a thousand different inputs to blame at any given moment.
As a fundamental case in point, plenty of the liberal economic strain will tell you that our economic downturn is the result of severe heat caused by climate change. But conservatives who don't believe in climate change won't accept that diagnosis. So they're definitely not going to accept liberal economic reforms - particularly those intended to mitigate the causes and consequences of climate change - as a solution.
From what I’ve seen in interviews, when asked if they would still vote for him, almost all of them resoundingly say “yes!”.
It's pure selection bias. No shit the person who identifies as a Republican will continue to vote Republican.
A more interesting trend is the rising number of unaligned voters
Party ID continues to slide universally. The 77/23 GOP split on this issue is from an increasingly marginal group of die-hard partisans. I'm willing to bet that the folks who feel burned are the most likely to drop into the Independent voter bucket over time. But then this person isn't in the "GOP voter who feels X", so you stop seeing them in the "GOP voter who doesn't like these policies" metrics anymore.
Practically a running joke that partisan views shape economic perceptions.
As soon as the GOP eats shit in the mid-terms, you're going to see a massive chunk of those 77% of Republicans wake up and realize the economy is bad. Meanwhile, a healthy chunk of the Dems will decide actually things are looking good again.
But the longterm trend has consistently been negative. If either the Dems or GOPers can figure out how to implement some decent economic reforms, there's a massive popular windfall waiting for them on the other side.

We're seeing a nascent movement with a Tea Party sized constituency that is struggling against a massive undercurrent of hostile corporate media and institutional support.
We've seen it before - during OWS and BLM and the Bush Era anti-war movement and the 80s environmental movement and the 60s civil rights movement.
Contexts change. That's how we got here to begin with.

A plurality of members currently say they support abolishing ICE while they have no control over national policy.
What do local governors and mayors think? My own Houston-Area Dem Mayor has been working hand-in-glove with Greg Abbott and Ken Paxton to conduct mass arrests and fill up prisons full of migrant people. That's in between the odd ICE shooting.
Our liberal City Council greenlit Flock Cameras. Our local House Reps have been championing genocide at home and abroad with their legislative votes and organizing actions.
The party and the people are not aligned.

They aren't turning around. They're getting much much worse. The hill Dems have to climb in '26 is so much higher than in '18 or '06 or '92.
The stakes are higher. Which means Dems have more to win in the long run, if they can take control of a failing economy and deliver on reforms they've been promising since the 1940s.
But after Clinton and then Obama and then Biden all pooched historic opportunities, faith in the establishment is at an all time low.
So instead of saying Dems don’t have the numbers, why not say “this is why it’s so important to vote in November”?

Just look at what happened to Starmer's Labour Party. Historic win. Massive popular mandate. All anyone got was Fascism Lite. They paved the way for Nigel Farrage.

Andrew Cuomo's done. Gavin Newsom's career is pretty much cooked, unless he runs as a Republican. Tim Walz is leaving office in disgrace over the failure to stand up for his constituents. It's a bloodbath for liberal veterans.
The US has had something of a history of rounding people up for indefinite imprisonment and murder through neglect.
Might want to consider doing something about that, rather than punting the tools of genocide to the next administration.

ICE was a post-9/11 invention of the Bush Administration. To believe we absolutely need a paramilitary dedicated to funneling millions of people into concentration camps on spurious allegations and threadbare charges, you need to have already ingested a ton of hysterical fascist slop.
If you want to defend ICE's existence, put up an argument for it's continued function. Why do we need tens of thousands of armed thugs storming into cities and dragging people out of green card hearings by their hair?
