They’re broadcasting the shindig from Williamsburg instead. 👍 Last night they did the usual concert at the capitol and showed the fireworks from Mt Vernon.
I don’t know if anyone is broadcasting the nonsense from the mall —I wouldn’t be surprised if dumbfuck has it on pay per view or something. (Cspan will probably have the speech, but I'm not watching that dreck, either.)
It snowed a few inches, then sleeted on top of it for hours. The sleet caused the snow to compact, and by the time it was done, a shovelful of the stuff weighed 50 pounds. People were breaking it up with metal shovels and building igloos out of it. Big highway plows on dumptrucks were riding right over the top of it. The only way to move it was with those little skid steer things with shovels on the front. Even they would get jammed up under it and their front wheels would come off the ground.
Cities dug the stuff up and put it in dumptrucks and took it to places like the parking lots of sports arenas and piled it three and four stories high, and it didn't completely melt until, like, May. I forget where it was, maybe Baltimore, where the snow/ice pile was so heavy it cracked the surface of the parking lot it was piled on.
after that snowcrete we had here in the midlantic, I swore I'd never complain about the heat again. It's tough, but I'm holding to my promise. (It's only 98 out so far.)
what I read somewhere was that NC declined to participate, so NASCAR said they'd do something with the booth...haven't been over there so cannot confirm. (And have no plans to go--I'd like to go to Smithsonian Folklife in the A&I bldg, but you literally can't walk across the mall without going a half mile out of your way. And it's 100 degrees outside.)
Yeah, I've just started trying to "be the change..." and all that by posting stuff in small communities that haven't been posted in in months/years. I get upvotes, so clearly some people are looking at them.
Interesting thread linked in that article—mentions that usage has dropped on new reddit, but TPTB don’t care because they’re making bank on all the new ads.
