  • cycling...25 to 50 miles per day

Dude that's 2-4 hours a day! I'm jealous of how much time you have that you can spend cycling! I have to do my rides after the kids go to bed so that limits me to about 2 hours before it gets too dark in the summer to safely keep going on the rural trails

  • But I have also heard that strength/cardio are interrelated.

My experience being male and into cardio is that so many dudes simply do not give cardio enough attention. Cardio gives you super quick recovery time when doing anything physical, and overall gives you way better endurance so you can work on more muscles in a strength training session

I've seen dudes with muscles worthy of a magazine spread fail to match my regular runs or bike rides because they simply do not put enough focus on cardio

  • I'm guessing you mean a stationary bike and not necessarily a recumbent bike

Because otherwise I'm just stuck imagining you biking around in circles in the street in front of your house while playing steam games...

  • It's more a case of when you go to the piss spraying machine you can't get mad if you get a little piss on you. Everyone seems to have forgotten that the internet is where people go to tell lies for fun

  • Like the “Voltage harmonisers” that “cut you’re bill by ½”. Anyone with 1 braincell would understand electric is charged by watts because its the value that doesn’t change when voltage or amps change!

The fun thing is like most scams there's a kernel of truth in there. I don't fully understand it but Big Clive explained it once while tearing one of them apart. Basically it's a giant capacitor that is designed to smooth the frequency of the circuit a little, and if that frequency is fluctuating a lot due to a really wonky load (like a bunch of giant AC motors) on certain types of (older) electric meters that can be read as more energy consumption than if you shove a bunch of capacitors on the circuit to smooth it out. But the capacitors on those little boxes are much too small to have any noticable impact on your energy bill if you happened to have both the load and the type of meter that would care, and ultimately if you want a cheap plugin of questionable legality to lower your electric bill you're much better off just throwing solar panels outside and plugging them into the wall

  • So many computer cases don't have 5.25" bays anymore. But some do and those are ones I end up purchasing because I have a few CD/DVD drives kicking around that I'll toss in my computers when I build them because I'd rather have it and rarely use it than not have it and have to turn to a noisy and slow USB DVD drive

  • Oooh I didn't even know about Voron but I'm very intrigued now by what I've read about them

  • It wasn't until I was 30 that I finally got one of the most obvious jokes of that film. At all times there's the constant drone of airplane propellers...on a jet

  • Disney's new show is actually pretty good

In a similar vein, the Series of Unfortunate Events movie was a weird and ultimately disappointing adaptation but the Netflix series was incredible

  • Yeah I've seen that for bikes but also sand and gravel works very differently from snow under tires

  • So what would you recommend to someone who wants to get their hands a bit dirty and is reluctant to put anything on the network?

Also realistically the printer would live in my detached garage which I haven't yet bothered to setup any sort of wifi in, so a connected printer would balloon the scope of such a project and cause it to intersect with and be blocked by other queued network projects, and sometimes I just don't want to faff with networking after working how many hours faffing with networking professionally

  • I inherited an older Sienna last year and its been eye-opening just how incredibly practical minivans are for almost any use case where one might want/need a large vehicle. I keep saying that most truck drivers who actually want to haul shit don't realize that what they actually want is a minivan. Same goes for most large SUV drivers. Just get a minivan!

  • I'd also assume sand driving is like snow driving in that appropriate tires are far more critical to performance than the vehicle drivetrain

Edit: holy crap I can write coherent sentences! honest!

  • Jumping off of this, as someone who's been adjacent to 3D printing spaces for over a decade now, what is a good beginner 3D printer for someone who would rather spend less up front and spend more time calibrating and tinkering? Is it still the Ender 3 Pro?

  • From my understanding Bambu is playing "who has the bigger pile of money" while others are stepping up and playing "who has the legal right to fork AGPL code?"

  • Dang I must be misremembering the specifics then!

Edit: looks like fingerprints are in fact different for identical twins so it must've been that they got fingerprinted on every visit (which is much more realistic for a parole and probation office to collect and test on-site, whereas DNA would have to be sent for processing which would presumably take days or weeks)

I only heard the tale secondhand like a decade ago so not surprising that some specifics got mixed up

  • I had a relative who worked at a parole and probation office. There were a pair of twins who had a long history of covering for eachother (which the courts had become well aware of) and one got a sentence including probation. Since twins have the same fingerprints, they were required to provide a DNA sample at every court-mandated probation meeting to prove that the correct twin showed up to every required probation meeting

  • That's exactly who an ODM is, and Original Design Manufacturer. In the mobile space it's generally some tech giant like Foxconn which makes tons of devices for tons of brands, and they generally have their own generic designs that they'll happily white label for any brand

  • Well, there over 200 million adult US citizens, assume 1/3 are trump supporters that's 60 million potential customers, it's not unrealistic for 1% of them to have placed a $100 deposit on a trump branded phone.

I'm just more surprised they decided to not ship anything. They could've simply gone to any ODM ordered a generic design but in gold color and called it a day. Heck they could run an actual MVMO sell some overpriced android phones as carrier branded devices, sell some overprice cell service, then sell the brand off to wash their hands of it and probably would've made far more than the paltry $6 million that they did make in pre-order deposits

Edit: I was off by a zero they made ~$60 million in deposits
