  • Wait... do holes that meet up with other holes count as separate holes? The nostrils meet up with the mouth hole but then combined they go through to the anus. Do those count as three distinct holes, since looking at each of them individually they would count as a hole? Or would there be one hole with... four openings?

ETA: I have more questions. Do all the openings need to be open to still be considered a hole? Is it only a hole if all my sphincters are open and my mouth is open? If I'm getting choked but my mouth is open and I'm trying to breathe, does my mouth to nostrils count as a hole themselves? Do my nostrils automatically count as a hole as long as one or both isn't stuffed up?

  • As a party, the Dems suck. Absolutely. And in the long-term, as an opposition party, they are not great.

That being said, are the non-voters and protest non-voters children? The nonsense I'm reading about non-voters not being "inspired" or not being "captured" by Democrats to convince them to vote against fascism sounds like a description of a salesman trying to sell products, not the either-or choice being given to every adult American, which is, as a citizen, their own goddamn responsibility to be party to.

A non-vote is still a vote. You don't absolve yourself of the outcome by choosing not to participate, because if you can vote, you're already participating.

There were three real options this past election: MAGA, Dems, and I-don't-care-they're-equally-bad. So yes, not voting when fascists win means you supported fascism.

Obviously that does not mean non-voters are solely to blame. Republicans accepted fascists, those that voted R chose fascists, Dems suck as a party, and non-voters sat back and allowed fascists to take power. On the list, non-voters are the least bad, certainly, but they still bear responsibility.

  • Well, they sure proved the "you can't trust the government when it comes to vaccines" message they were trying to put out during the pandemic.

I guess that's kind of always been the Republican playbook: Complain about something in the government. If it's not true, wait until you're in power and make it true.

  • Why those quotes though? Why do you want to hurt us?

  • Tank is the best.

    Okay, 3... 2... 1... let's jam.

  • They're clearly a troll account. If you look at their comment history it's all like this, and "what is world?" And repeated "Nobody likes me" and an entire string of comments that are just "well" in different communities.

    Block and move on.

  • Also "let's take this offline" which just means let's have a different meeting about it, it'll still be online because we're all remote.

See, I would think that would mean for more individual discussion, as in "this isn't relevant to this meeting, why don't you and I talk about this after the meeting or at a later point."

I think everyone has those coworkers who see meetings as an opportunity to ask about things with no relevance to anyone else in the room and makes everybody sit through 10 minutes (per discussion) about an issue that only pertains to them, instead of just going to the manager/whatever's office in their own time to ask about their personal situation.

If it's just to table it until another meeting, though, that doesn't make any sense.

  • I mean, yeah, but actually streamlining things is something I like. I work on helicoptersn so example:

Aircraft is broken because of a faulty component. So the maintainer has to go and sign on to our grossly over-bloated computer (which can take anywhere from 5 to 45 minutes to start up), look up the relevant illustrated parts breakdown and download it (because they've moved everything to the cloud from our previous local servers) which runs through our exceptionally bottle-necked security system (seriously, usually ~50-100kbps download on a 100Mbps connection), find the part, log into a different system to get the national standard number and see what type it is to find what system to look in to see if we have it, look up the part location. Look up the maintenance procedure card (which is not classified) from the same place as the manual, download it at 100kbps, figure out the operational check for the replaced component is not in the card but in a separate maintenance manual, go back into that system and download that manual, find the ops check. Try to print out both the card and the ops check from whatever printer wants to work today. Fill out a requisition form, grab the part, and now you can start the job. Basically, add approximately an hour of work to any task for this nonsense.

Streamlined: Have a standalone computer that is not connected to the internet, is regularly updated via approved external hard drive with the latest Maintenance Procedure Cards and manuals, pre-filled requisition forms (with locations) for parts, lists of consumable components (like gaskets) for each repair, connected to a standalone printer hardwired to the standalone computer. Pull up card, manual, form, and ops check and print in 5 minutes.

Finding time wasters that only serve to frustrate workers and finding ways to cut those time wasters out makes the workers and the managers happy, assuming the people doing the job want to do the job well and quickly (we all want to be here, so that describes our hangar deck).

    I'm a fan of streamlining.

  • Ahead of their time.

  • Oh, I had understood that to mean lay down facedown (with your back to it) since people usually have backpacks while hiking/hunting, and it provides some measure of protection.

  • That journalist was doing their very best to let him off the hook and move on. That wasn't even a gotcha situation, he even conceded that the tattoos could be interpretted as MS-13 bit that he was no expert, and tried to move on. But Trump wouldn't let it go, and kept trying to pull it back to "it wasn't photoshop, he actually had the MS13 tattooed in print on his knuckles" and openly said that the journalist should just say yes and accept it before he'd move on. Jesus.

  • You lost me at "not tired enough to sleep."

Well, time to go take a nap!

  • If you wouldn't strike up a conversation with a guy, don't strike up a conversation with a woman. Be comfortable with conversations with strangers of whatever gender with no ulterior motive, and you'll meet more people.

If you meet more people, your likelihood of finding dates will increase as a side effect.

If you are only approaching women, particularly women you find attractive, in places that are not generally for that purpose (bars, parties, swingers clubs), then you're being a creep.

But regardless, it's better to have interests, pursue those interests, and meet people with similar interests. Because when you have interests, you might become interesting, and someone might become interested.

  • It'd be sweeter if I had a house and could arrange a spot to do it reliably.

My wife and I are buying a house, and one of the main things she's planning is The Unkindness Sanctuary, since there are a ton of ravens in our area.

She also named the raven that regularly came to our front door "Hugin," so I dig your crow bros name.

  • Short answer: work less.

Long answer: I actually enjoy my job, and have for a long time. If I had won several million long ago I would have kept my job because it (most of the time) was very fulfilling and important, though it has largely wrecked my body.

Now I can't fly anymore, so while my job is still important and fulfilling, it's not nearly as exciting, and I am constantly crazy busy, so I'd love to cut my hours about in half, probably. I'd still want to work.

Oh, and I'd build a forge in my backyard. So maybe work the same amount, but some of my time crafting things.

  • I think this is the main one. That song (as performed by Whitney) is absolutely iconic and absolutely transcendental. The Dolly version is good, but if it weren't for Whitney it would be just another Dolly Parton song.

  • "Am I Evil" by Diamond head, covered by Metallica, and done so much cleaner and better that I got into a full-on argument with somebody (pre-google) about it it not being an original Metallica song.

Also, I have nothing but respect for Roberta Flack and think "Killing Me Softly" was a fantastic song when she performed it, the Fugees absolutely crushed that song. Listening to the original shortly after makes it fall a little flat.

In the reverse of this, when I mention "Wagon Wheel" and somebody mentions Darius Rucker I get upset. Oh, you took a solid song with great harmonies and instrumentation, and you swapped it out to be a generic country song? Way to make it "your own" bud.

  • Funny enough, she actually really likes Detroit Pizza. But yes, she thinks Chicago pizza is trash (I tend to agree, I hate the way chicago pizza is made... it's messy, has too much sauce, and requires a fork which, to me, defeats the point of the pizza).

And I lived in New Jersey for awhile, and the pizza there, with a few exceptions, was some of the best pizza I've had (and I'm not talking that wide flat greasy stuff you get at NY street corners, I'm talking the pizza made at the restaurants run by Italians that are about half Italian restaurant, half pizza joint).

  • So no joke, I talked shit about pineapple on pizza for years. Then, I can't remember why specifically, but we had someone over and asked what type of pizza she wanted, and she said Hawaiian. And there was some leftover. I grew up poor, and we do not waste food, so I decided it was worth trying it.

It was amazing. I immediately felt silly for being so against it.

My wife still refuses to try it on principle (she did grow up near NYC, so she has STRONG opinions on pizza).
