  • Find an eye doctor that has the time for you, so you don't feel rushed. My family always used to take us to wal-mart when we were kids, and I still kept going there as an adult. Until one time I had to go to somewhere closer one day. And it was night and day. At walmart you always felt rushed like they booked each appointment for 5 minutes or something. At a proper eye doctor, we sat and talked about all my eye health, not just vision. And never once did it feel like they were just trying to get through the appointment. They were interested to hear about my health. But most importantly, they were very open to spending twice as much time doing the a/b testing at a comfortable pace. And I didn't have to suggest it, they could tell it would benefit me.

  • It is still hard to believe, but yes, he has been president twice now, the first time was indeed during 2019. It is also sometimes hard to believe 2019 was long enough ago that there have been multiple president changes since then.

    But if you'll recall, Trump was president when Covid 19 started. He ignored and then downplayed it for so long that he is largely responsible for a huge portion of the americans it killed. And due to how out of control it got, and to a degree still is, especially lately since it is back on the rise now, potentially also responsible for a decent portion of the non-americans it has killed too. He shares that with a lot of other terrible leaders though.

  • Also, it looks like "old mutual health" was recently re-branded to "ReAssure" in the UK, so that would be who to look up for what type of insurance they would provide. It does sound like they were life insurance, or "life assurance" as they called it. Sounds very much like disability insurance would be under their umbrella.

  • The fact that their mind even goes to " it was deliberate long-term planning on my opponent's part to make me look bad" suggests that is shit they do... instead of 'governing in the best interest of the people they represent' which is what their job is supposed to be, and what their opponents actually do.

  • Isn't it that he was the surgeon? So he billed the insurance for himself and paid himself the money. Instead of the money going to the hospital and some portion of it going towards his paycheck, but most of it going towards the cost of running and supplying a hospital with all the tech and tools they need to stay current and have competitive success rates.

    Or did he just claim disability or something by way of accident instead of by choice, to get a higher disability insurance pay out?

    Either way, fraud is basically any time you lie to get money, criminal fraud is when you lie to get enough money that the police care. And it certainly seems like he lied to get more money than he was entitled.

  • One thing, my current 4k TV/monitor does a pretty nice job upscaling 1080p. It, of course, doesn't look as good as native 4k, but it looks considerably better than 1080p not upscaled. So even without native 8k content, there is some value in being able to upscale 4k content to 8k.

  • Yeah, very much looking forward to headsets with 8k panels. Most are up to 4k now, and it's getting pretty good. If it stays at 4k for a bit, that would be fine. But it's definitely an area where 8k will still be a very noticeable upgrade.

    Even if the only short-term practical use for an 8k panel is how far away a 4k or 1080p screen would be clear to read in an augmented reality situation, that would be reason enough. But I personally will gladly lower quality settings to run VR games in 8k instead of 4k as well.

    This is clipped segments from a live stream, so it jumps ahead at times. It has links to the source channel if you would prefer a full video. This one is probably already too long for most people though.

    He does end up figuring out why she has so much trouble correctly inserting code in the right places later.

    Edit: also, everytime she says "filtered", it means whatever she was gonna say would have broken youtube or twitch rules. He has two filters, one on the text generated and one on the text to speech. If the text one catches it, it just outputs filtered instead, if the speech one catches it, she'll still type something terrible, but only say roughly the first syllable or 2 before the speech is cut off.

  • Gonna guess, basically the same thing. Easy answers to hard questions instead of you having to think about them.

    So, as far as they would be concerned, the only reason more people haven't chosen that path must be because they don't know how much easier it is, and how much less they have to think about stuff.

    They can't see that building skill and knowledge has value beyond the extra effort.

  • You can either embrace the ADHD, or fight it. Ultimately which you prefer is up to you and your individual situation. The downside of embracing it is for sure gonna be financial, the downside of fighting it is gonna be emotional/mental anguish.

    Having a new hobby every month can be fine if you know it's gonna be the thing. Don't invest too heavily even if it "really feels like this is finally the one". Or, you can focus on a hobby that does constantly change, videogaming is of course one example. The other thing is, you may develop the ability to steer your interest back to previous hobbies. Just know that there is a bit of a wall to climb to get back into a hobby you dropped, it's gonna feel a whole lot taller of a wall than it really is but a little push can be enough to clear it without burning out.

    Edit: joining a social community for each hobby is a good way to naturally swing your interest back to it every now and then.

  • Entertainment is valuable, it's what helps us get through the stuff we don't want to do. Looking forward to, or fondly remembering back on, the stuff we did/do for fun.

    Budget for it. If what you want fits in that budget, and there is no other downside preventing you, then go for it.

  • Could sort of be described that way. But they basically just shape the sound in a way that your ear hears it with the specific acoustic distortion that normally cues your brain that the sound came from behind you. Or wherever.

    So in the sense that a hologram is using different properties of shaping light to trick your eyes that something looks different than it really does, then yeah, audio hologram sort of fits. And similarly, it only works if your ears are exactly where they expect them to be, just like a hologram with your eyes.
