I guess so. People tend to overestimate technological progress.
To maximise the full use of the latest models of AI, one has to recognise the limitations. I learned that it is like a child in which you have to give it specific instructions to do exactly as you want it to do. But, don't expect it to do more complex tasks because it's not there yet. It's a literal child.
I am concerned as well that it would displace us from work. But most of the criticism of AI I met are, frankly, older people who think it's still dumb as a rock and could never improve. Although they don't realise that they are likely experiencing averse reaction to what is new. Meanwhile, the younger people, as we are already talking about, recognise it's improving over time. Hence, the youths being concerned of being put out of job (I never met a young person who still think the AI doesn't have any potential). So the latter group recognise that AI is working, as opposed to the older generations.
