  • Thanks for reminding me to get a new battery.

  • Unironically, be bored more. If you are so tweaked out by the constant stimulation of modern life that even the deluge of content can't suffice, your brain has been broken. Meditate. Read. Listen to the sound of your breath. You will want to do something else. Do not do something else. Teach your brain to live at the speed of life.

  • Ignore it? Just because a thing exists doesn't mean it has to serve extra purposes. Space is fine as space if you don't already want to use it for something.

  • 'Killing people is bad and we should generally have rules against it.'

'But what if I need to defend myself?'

Do you think that limited circumstance warrant throwing away the rule? Or maybe, just maybe, we stick to the general as a general rule but excuse violations of the rule where it seems reasonable? The vast majority of kids are not endangered by queerness, and those that are should be helped, but the answer to a few kids needing help is not to open the floodgates on everyone else. Computers are great tools but the modern internet is no place for an unaccompanied child. It's probably not even good for adults, but adults can at least pretend to give informed consent in a way kids cannot.

  • So you say, and yet not any hint of how.

  • Wow, such a substantive argument. /s

  • The internet is for communication. A child has no reason to communicate with anyone independent of their parent. No internet.

  • The one I always think of in response to this question is Cirice, originally by Ghost, but covered by Saint Raven. The original is good but I like what Saint Raven did with the vocals.

  • Cost, bad PR, etc. Wouldn't end the BS entirely, but it would decrease the general BS level.

  • Get rid of them entirely? Not happening.

Severely reduce them? Ban advertising. As it stands, you can spin up hundreds or even thousands of free accounts on any given site for not much investment, which means banning a troll account doesn't do much. Without advertising, the web would require you to pay for access. If people have to pay real cash for every BS bot account and trolling shitpost, they would be less inclined to spam or harass people.

  • It's full of humans, the only species on our planet that says the answer to 'shall we have sex?' can be 'No.'

  • I can't prove it but I suspect that they are having about as many children as they want and our expectations of 'fertility rates' are actually skewed by the number of unwanted pregnancies that were forced on people who then existed in the space of 'We didn't ask for this but now we love the little shit so I guess we'll make the best of it.' The world is and has been changing so fast for the last century or so that our sense of long term trends is much harder to understand.

  • LLMs do not 'believe' anything. They are very big, very expensive autocomplete. They don't know any information. They don't think about your prompts and propose an answer. They are a system that takes what you put in, assumes what you have entered is the first X words of a document that already exists, and then makes a probabilistic prediction what the next word will be.

    No thought. Only probability.

  • It's very weird. There's even a difference between different parts of the leftmost alien.

  • What about dommenetting?

  • It is a lot less worrying once you remember that basically every AI company is subsidizing their customers with investor money and when the customers have to start paying what it actually costs to do anything, the usage will plummet.

  • So, you're saying you do not consent to being ruled by criminals, but your primary objective is to focus on the people who you are claiming do consent rather than on either your own actions, with which you could demonstrate a lack of consent, or the people who you believe have committed crimes, who you ostensibly want to see held accountable? You going to call out the victims of domestic abuse for not leaving their homes to escape their abusers next? Or maybe you'd like to blame rape victims for not fighting back hard enough? This is disingenuous pot-stirring, virtue signal purity testing, or just foolish misprioritization. It serves no purpose except to make you feel good. Work toward getting them to withdraw consent if you like, or maybe toward getting the criminals out of power, but going to the space where you expect people to agree with you just to talk about the people who don't behind their back is useless, at best.

  • Reality? Last time I tried that Reality fucked me so hard I grew cat ears. I'm off to the fantasy land of investor confidence.
