  • Basically, that's what I have seen. It gives the average answer, and sometimes conflates information from similar topics or appears to provide solutions that don't exist.

    If your task is to take creative solutions and work them into a framework, it might help jump start ideas, but it cannot keep a logical thread.

  • I think that's the thing. It's a trivial task, but it doesn't feel like work because they are asking for it to be done instead of doing it themselves.

  • I feel like I'm the last grounding point for a peer who is getting in too deep. He is running all kinds of agents and says that he is afraid of getting left behind. He tells me about openclaw, which I looked into, but not interested in automation that doesn't produce specific repeatable results.

    On his behalf I have dug into ollama, but I find that I am just as fast if not faster at the OCR text cleanup using spell checker than arguing with the bot and fixing its mistakes.

    He seems to understand my frustrations very well, and my counterpoints seem to be accepted.

    I think it is important to try the tools at least a few times and to attempt to integrate them into your workflow, but you need to then take a step back after you finally feel like you have a flow and compare it to your work without. Sure, you are contributing to the numbers briefly, but without being able to articulate your grievances from their perspective your words won't have as much weight.

  • I recall eating at fast food restaurants and sitting in the smoking section. Just lighting up in a freaking Wendy's. McDonald's had branded ashtrays.

    My grandmother grew increasingly angry as smoking sections disappeared, then laws came into effect banning smoking in certain public areas. She grew up with everyone smoking everywhere. It was normalized in society during the prime of her life, and if you didn't have smokes, then you probably either were weird or didn't have it together.

  • I think LibertyLizard's suggestion to check with a local native plant society is spot on. A place like Lemmy is great to ask a wide variety of opinions, but specialized knowledge is best gleaned from the experts.

    I know it's an oxymoron, but think about creating an open terrarium.

    Also, I love the idea of guerilla gardening.

  • Water flows down. There is more shade at street level, and it is more humid. The bustle of life brings detritus to these cracks, providing nutrients.

    The top of a tall building is going to be more arid, and-unless you have some way to attract birds-a limited amount of nutrients.

    Instead of a pot, consider a trough or elevated garden.

    I suggest finding companion plants that go with plants called out in these types of sites: https://www.nycgovparks.org/learn/trees-and-plants/native-plants-of-new-york-city. Call small suburban greenhouses and chat people up to find hardy shrubs. Consider collecting rainwater and putting the distribution on a timer over night.

    Attract birds with fruiting plants and pollinators. Bird poop, insect carcasses, etc. If you can compost, that will help, too. Worms and food waste will also help.

  • To build on what you are saying, enterprise solutions are built up lock out the end user and provide reporting. Assuming your solution is receiving regular and timely updates, and it is able to respond appropriately, there is no issue.

    I personally recommend Defender. It hits the minimum check marks. Almost all the other products out there are snake oil.

  • I purchase a bunch of machines off government auction, patch then up, and pass them back out for very little. Anything with 4 cores and 8 GB memory should do it. If you can get something with DDR4, that's a big step. Bonus points of it was made after 2018.
