  • Well if only you had thick skin, it wouldn't

  • Oh yeah need the right breed of mangoes for this to work, need a thick skin and easy to remove seed.

One thing that works for me is pulling it out with my teeth instead of hands, also a lil twist to loosen it first.

  • You cut it there, twist to open, pull out the 'seed?' and eat it with a spoon.

The skin of the mango is the cup itself.

  • First of all I am THE objective authority about eating mangoes and that is not up for debate thank you very much. As much is my goddamn birthright.

Secondly it depends on the breed of mango.

Now idk what kinds exist everywhere in the world but I do know that theres several legitimate ways to eat the varieties found in India and Pakistan.

If you can ever get your hands on em try one of the Pakistani breeds.

    • Chaunsa (white, sweet and black)- the best stuff imo.
    • Dusehri-great texture.
    • Anwar Ratol- small, sweet, very flavourful. Short shelf life.
    • Sindhri- queen of mangoes.

Theres also badshah pasand which I believe Shah Jahan loved and was pissed his son Aurangzeb was taking some of his. (Mughal Emperors and my ancestors as it so happens)

    • Cutting into slices is acceptable, skin on.
    • Cutting into cups is acceptable for kids (and me)
    • Squishing them when skin on to pulp them and then breaking the little black nipple tk suck out the pulp is acceptable for certain varieties. Anwar Ratol for example.
    • Cutting into skinless squares to be eaten with forks will be allowed so long as you do it with shame.

  • DONT TOUCH MY PENIS.

or any viral video (that was not recorded by the person themselves, since those are often people trying to be famous)

  • A bit, yes. BUT I go away for a few months and then return to Lemmy with full force. When I'm active here it feels like an active space, when I'm not active, it feels a lil dead.

So the issue is more about the way you engage with the community.

Also I think Lemmy data is available. Posts per month, users etc.

  • Everything has always been derivative of smth. We all stand on the shoulders of those before us.

Having said that, the Dennis Villeneuve dune does not overrely on previous adaptations like the lynch dune.

But guess what, plot comes from the book, themes come from the book. That is just being loyal to the source material since the medium in which the story is now being told is different.

As a whole the film has enough soul and individuality to stand out. You wouldn't watch it and think, ah a vague action movie with Arab inspired music.

Film is also a collaborative medium, one man doesn't decide what it is, many have influenced it and hence influences have come in from all over the place.

But Dennis Villeneuve as a director has left his imprint on this movie. If you've seen 2 or 3 of his movies you can watch dune without knowing he made it, you can guess it was him.

The way he works with light and dialogue specifically is individual enough for dune to be a unique movie.

(The general idea of an auteur in cinema is what I'm talking about)

  • 😂 yeeeep

  • If you can't appreciate movies you need to improve your visual literacy. Cinema has its own language just as any visual medium does.

You can watch with your mind open just as you can to read.

Its not the medium thats the issue but the way the consumer treats it.

Edit. And by you I dont mean op personally, but people who generally think cinema is the place to close your mind.

  • My school went to an inter school spelling bee competition and we were 2nd last. Spelled 4 out of 30 words correct 😭

  • That was used to store the dialogue, I have no memory.

  • I like Zizeks idea of love being a violent event. Check the yt video by Julian de madeiros which should explain the idea.

You could also read/ listen to zizek talk about it

  • Those allegations began after Anthony Rapp alleged that Spacey, while appearing intoxicated, made a sexual advance toward him at a party in 1986, when Rapp was 14 (so it was pedophilia after all) and Spacey was 27. Rapp had also shared this story in a 2001 interview with The Advocate, but Spacey's name was redacted from publication to avoid legal disputes and public outing.

Spacey stated on Twitter that he did not remember the encounter, but that he owed Rapp "the sincerest apology for what would have been deeply inappropriate drunken behavior" if he had behaved as asserted.

On September 9, 2020, Rapp sued Spacey for sexual assault, sexual battery, and intentional infliction of emotional distress under the Child Victims Act.

In the subsequent federal civil court proceeding, a jury found that Spacey did not molest Rapp and was found not liable on all counts, with Rapp subsequently ordered by the court to pay Spacey $39,089 for the costs of litigation.

Fifteen others then came forward alleging similar abuse, including Boston anchorwoman Heather Unruh, who alleged that Spacey sexually assaulted her son; filmmaker Tony Montana; actor Roberto Cavazos; Richard Dreyfuss' son Harry; and eight people who worked on House of Cards. The Guardian was contacted by "a number of people" who alleged that Spacey "groped and behaved in an inappropriate way with young men" as artistic director of The Old Vic theatre.

Jesus fucking Christ this is bleak.

  • In 2017, Spacey faced several allegations of sexual assault and sexual harassment. On October 29, 2017, actor Anthony Rapp was the first to accuse Spacey of sexual misconduct. In the following weeks, other accusers came forward, including actor Roberto Cavazos, filmmaker Tony Montana, Richard Dreyfuss's son Harry, and at least eight people who worked on House of Cards.

In the wake of these claims, Netflix cut ties with Spacey, shelving his biopic of Gore Vidal and removing him from the last season of House of Cards. His completed role as J. Paul Getty in Ridley Scott's film All the Money in the World (2017) was reshot with Christopher Plummer. Spacey has denied the accusations and was found not liable in a 2022 civil lawsuit filed by Rapp in New York. In a separate criminal case in London, he was acquitted by a jury of sexual assault charges in 2023.

For the people who know he did smth, but didn't know what. I had always assumed bit was paedophilia or smth. Gay sexual misconduct was not gonna be smth I would've guessed, didnt even know he was gay. But then again I know nothing of any celebrity's life.

With the number of people from just the house of cards set making the allegations, it feels highly likely he's guilty.
