    I mean, even if they start getting quantum programming off the ground, no one is going to be able to afford the fucking computers. We can't even afford non quantum computers anymore.

    Boiling water is just the layer 1 physical transport, all the cool stuff is happening at layers 2-7. The real mind blowing breakthrough would be if they finally did something to fix layer 8

  • It's more that when you look at history and technological progress, and our (millenial's) own view on technological progress, the current stagnation and the permeation of said stagnation is a pain point. Every time we look at the news, it's something going fucking wrong, and never delivering on the promise of a better , brighter future.

    We saw computers go from 100s of Mhz to 3 ghz ish and just get fucking stuck there. From 16 meg to 64 gigs, and now we can't buy any ram. We had touch interfaces being able to show you an arbitary interface and instead of innovation, we got swiping through stupid videos. We look through the history we didn't live through, and see that in the 20th century, we went through flight and rockets to the fucking moon and then nothing. We have a rocket going to the moon with people in it again for the first time since the 70s, and they aren't even doing anything new, just flying around. We expected there to be fucking bases on MARS by the time we got to the distant year of TWO THOUSAND AND TWENTY SIX.

    Even now, when we're coming to harvesting power from the sun, in a seemingly new way (focusing it with mirrors onto salt) it's just going to be the same shit, nothing new, no innovation. Just put the hot rock into water, and harvest it through steam power as if it's the fucking 1800s.

    Also, it has a light relation to the evolution inevitably creating crabs once again meme of Carcinisation.

  • what did you use instead, especially for Python?

    I asked in a random thread about linux IDEs, thinking there'd be several to the level of VSCode and didn't find anything recommended that was particularly new, and ended up using pulsar for taking notes (it keeps sessions with "unsaved" files somewhere so I just dump stuff into there, manages searches of file contents from certain folders like VS code) and VS Codium for development (it has ctrl+click to find usages/takes to declerations) , but I haven't gotten python integration working on there, and would like to try something new out.

    I don't want to use Kate or NeoVim since I want a GUI and integration with "compilers"/interpreters by using buttons and such, but I haven't found anything that doesn't seem like its from the late 90s early 00s, which doesn't work with my shitty eyes and 1080 displays.

  • Both are antiquated at this point, but both have their uses, so do what works, no shame here.

    I'm not using antiquated as in "old" I'm using it as in "disused, no longer functioning the same way other tools of the same ilk do".

    The new "breakthroughs" in AI and data analysis are being done in python, and it's being used to serve the modern standard of web APIs. I haven't heard much about PHP based LLMs or REST APIs.

    But like, I'm fine that people like PHP and want to keep using it. Again, I was just regurgitating an old meme.

  • I'm literally working on APIs for my company on python right now, while I develop something else in django for my personal project(s). I've worked for fortune 500 companies, and actually used minimal PHP on my own website as a hack for menu reuse.

    It's a joke , you guys are taking it too seriously. The main idea is that compared to things like python, php is outdated. Yes, legacy systems exist, and are successful. But it was a punching bag for webdev hate for a long time, in a way that other things like perl, ruby , or python have not been.

    Maybe regurgitating those jokes are not that funny. Alright. Doesn't mean that you need to try to bring my skills down and attack my professionalism.

  • As soon as moto drops a graphene compatible device I’m getting one and never looking back.

    motorola hasn't been killing it but, they've been doing fantastic. Like the last ~10 phones we bought have been the basic ass motorola , because it's cheap, doesn't come with bloat, and works fairly reliably. We're fucking clutzes and drop it, break screens or lose them. I'm really glad that our spending habits led to them funding the ability to sell the graphene OS phone.
