I was like "surely it's not that bad", figuring on a couple/three nOt AlL mEN commenters.
Alas no, a whole thread of "everyone fetishizes someone" bs.
No, you slap dicks, it's possible to "have a type" without objectifying people. Do you even know what objectifying is? Can you understand the difference between attraction and viewing another human as an object that only exists for your gratification?
I think part of it is just life inexperience, combined with parents being afraid of having honest conversations with their kids about sexuality, attraction, and respect. I know I had a LOT of growing to do as a young man. I greatly appreciate the friends I had that called me out on my bullshit. I'm also glad my shyness kept me from outright chode behavior as a youth. I could've been very harmful in different circumstances. Not intentionally, but harmful nonetheless
I am heartened that so many in this thread are calling out the foolishness. I just hope the boys listen
Something I find delightful is how Terry Pratchett worked this event into his novel Night Watch. Of course the Glorious Revolution of the Twenty-Fifth of May is inspired by many public revolts to oppressive rule, not the least of which is the June Rebellion in Paris in 1832. But it's also no accident that some of the villains of the story work for the Cable Street Particulars, an enforcement arm of the fascist ruling Patrician.
Honestly it entirely depends on which universe the other winds up in. If the Enterprise popped into the Star Wars Galaxy they'd probably be screwed by the wonky laws of physics in what is essentially space fantasy land.
It'd be like a fully kitted marine dropping into the Forgotten Realms. Sure they could mow down a few guards, but pretty soon someone with 3/4 cover and spell sniper will cast fireball and poof, no more marine.
But hyperspace routes haven't been mapped in the Star Trek universe, which levels the field quite a bit.
Also the Empire doesn't have transporter tech, nor the ability to block it. Really the only thing stopping a Galaxy class starship from absolutely shellacking an ISD or even a SSD is the restraint of the captain in command.
Unless Thrawn has time to listen to Mozart, or the Force shows Darth Vader what and where the warp core is, the Empire will not win
Ok nerds, shut your goddamn months and listen up. This is how it goes.
It's a Star Trek episode, cause no one left at Disney is clever enough to do this.
The Enterprise (who else) comes upon a transwarp tachion triangularity. Which Enterprise? I'll get there. A ship, over 19 kilometers long, exits the thingo. A scan reveals that the weapons, although many, are paltry in strength. In fact the greatest threat to the Enterprise is straight up ramming the ships together, due to the incredible mass of the Super Star Destroyer.
Picard (you're goddamn right) hails the ship, and Vader responds. They do the typical back and forth you'd expect, similar to the posturing of early TNG Romulan encounters. Because of Diabolus ex Machina, oh, sorry, the dark side, the Enterprise is crippled and all tactical advantage is lost. It takes about twenty minutes of tense music and two commercial breaks for Geordi to pull a counter Deus ex Machina out of his ass. There's a brief salvo of blasters and photon torpedos, expending the last of the episode's SFX budget. The Star Destroyer is forced back into the plot device. The last thing heard is Vader's heavy breathing over the comms.
Both Riker and Troi have erections.
Picard somberly exits to the ready room to stare wistfully into space, as slow orchestral music plays in the background. As the credits roll, the music fades, and Darth Vader's breathing is again heard.
The overly sexualized decontamination scene Rick Berman'd me so hard my suspension of disbelief was ruined not just for that scene, but the whole series.
I'd like to avoid that if possible.
The Texas accent actually wasn't bad for me, but I get what you're saying. And the skip button was invented for commercials but continues to exist for the ENT intro
OP, do i have a story for you. I got the original Xbox in 2002. I found that one could copy music from CDs to the hard drive, and so i threw some Enya on there so i could listen to calming music while I studied. Later I put some Linkin Park, Incubus, The Offspring, and some other stuff on, and forgot about the Enya music.
Later I bought the X-Men Official Game, and while playing it, found out one could set the game music to stuff stored on the Xbox. So I'm running around, killing stuff with my big ole wolverine claws, and jamming out to Somewhere I Belong. Imagine my surprise as my killing spree continues and I hear "Who can say where the rain goes…"
NGL, it was pretty funny, but my roommate would not let it slide.
He called me Enya for the rest of the year. Or say "I'm Enya Mom", or "I'm gonna be Enya sister tonight".
You know what really grinds my gears about Vulcans? According to Trek lore their blood is green because they evolved using copper atoms to bind oxygen in the blood. But if that were the case they should have hemocyanin, and their blood should be blue.
I know for a certainty, however, that any inhabitable worlds we might find in the future will definitely look like a sound stage populated with Styrofoam boulders
Anyway, hardcore fans are dumb. I should know, I was one
