Shifting of focus (eyes to keyboard then back to screen) can slow you down a lot. With computers I just stare at the keyboard and type. Problem with this is when something happens on the screen and the cursor is no longer where I think it is.What I hate is the forced use of the mouse. Either make it all mouse or all keyboard navigable. In fact, with people having to use screen readers, all forms need to be keyboard navigable.
The one near me has a large kids section and a number of events for kids. They also have a coffee shop and pleasant reading area. I think they still also sell books.
How are they in charge? They get voted in because better people are not running or not getting voted for in many cases. Gerrymandering protects some of them.
I do crowd control when walking near other people or animals. This involves whistling or snapping my fingers to get their attention and putting my hands out if someone gets too close. I picked this up in rehab from a spinal injury that I have since mostly recovered from.
