  • I wouldn't really count agnosticism, no. Faith is relative. Even CS Lewis, the leader of the apologetics movement, expressed a "we really don't know in the end" in his final chapter of his final book. One might say everyone has varying degrees of agnosticism. So you're like me then, where my basis for honoring spirituality is that it's better to thank a creator that's not there than end up not thanking a creator that ends up being there?

  • Worship of Trump baffles me. Said worship isn't even consistent. One moment he's the second coming of Cyrus the Great, another moment he's the second coming of George Washington, and another moment he's the second coming of Jesus himself. At this point, they might as well just max it out by acknowledging he's the latest Avatar, the sixteenth doctor, the latest vessel of Professor Ozpin, and the most infamous and most anime-named Lemmy mod all wrapped up into one and be done with it.

    On a slightly more serious but lighthearted note, it does invoke the question "what counts as a religion?"

  • That sounds more like faith-fluid. That's rather common, a lot of people have a few things they are fickle over. Like how Ned Flanders is a Christian but keeps kosher "just in case".

    I am atheistic as there is no proof but often think to myself "but then again, God could technically be true if the right modifications are made, and then I must wonder if it's better to thank something that's not there than to end up dismissing something that is".

  • That's another thing. Parents often think "can I do this" and almost never "does the child need this". Most people who are ill-suited to parent would still be better for many children than the situations they're already in.

  • I've always held the view that it is reckless if people do that accidentally.

  • The only people I know who can't do that are robots. Makes me think of that one scene from I Robot with Sonny saying "I can't make masterpieces like humans" while instantly scribbling a picture of a riot into existence.

  • There was an episode of The Good Doctor where two of Shaun's patients were teenagers who had a one night stand, and the doctors are arguing over the ethics of it, and Shaun has the last word when he mentioned it's legal in California for consenting teenagers to do it up if they were both teenagers and consented, and he shuts down the debate. This is bold and alarming for a TV show within California, but things get worse outside of California and especially outside the US where people can be more conservative. Some people poke the bear, but they were striking the bear with a frypan here with walking the lines that would get the show banned in places like Korea where the show's predecessor originated in the first place.
