  • Whatever side of this issue you fall on, you should at least know that, tactics-wise, joining with the LAPD to do raids in Eastside LA is not going to work how you think it will. There’s movies, albums, books, historic moments in living memory, etc. that warn about that. Start in Sacramento or wherever. Don’t expect East LA to care about your “authority.”

  • I mean, let’s be real. The Pilgrims caught a ride. This country was basically founded by tobacco companies. The Virginia and Plymouth companies weren’t charities.

  • TikTok shows me BBQ techniques, random models, and teenagers trying to be professional stuntmen and almost dying. And that one time sea shanties. You have to train the algorithm.

  • When did consequences become a part of Trump’s agenda?

  • If I get deleted from government databases, that’s fine. I grew up in the swamp and have camped in probably 90% of the national parks. I have different tackle boxes for different types of fishing. I’ll be alright. (I do still suck a fly fishing but it’s fun so I’ll figure it out.)

  • Fuck yeah. Google is finally getting some hair on its peaches.

Oh, they meant the other direction. Well, that’s no fun.

  • When I worked in IT, we only let people install every other version of Windows. Our Linux user policy was always “mainstream distro and the LTS version.” Mac users were strongly advised to wait 3 months to upgrade. One guy used FreeBSD and I just never questioned him because he was older and never filed one help desk request. He probably thought I was an idiot. (And I was.)

Anyway, I say all that to say don’t use Windows 11 on anything important. It’s the equivalent of a beta. Windows 12 (or however they brand it) will probably be stable. I don’t use Windows much anymore and maybe things have changed but the concepts in the previous paragraph could be outdated. But it’s a good rule of thumb.

  • I guess the joke didn’t land if it needs an explanation. I just meant if my dad was a sex pervert and demanded we share cum reports, I’d have pretended to cum on everything to be obnoxious. I don’t actually want to nut on a carousel; it was more of a malicious compliance joke.

I don’t even know if they’re called carousels. Whatever those spinning things are at playgrounds? They probably got rid of them because they were legitimately unsafe or some bullshit.

  • Yeah, of course. We did team building. Some were absolutely harmless. Field trips can be educational and fun for all. Like, once we all got a special tour of our city’s infrastructure system that wouldn’t have been possible without a team. That was cool for everyone.

Another (which came up from one of the teams) was that someone would pick a theme and each Friday, someone brought in a dish from their hometown. I offered to reimburse for ingredients and they were usually like, “I don’t know how my grandma makes these.” and never filled out an expense report.

And like a Christmas Party (or equivalent where you live) happens, the company pays. That’s once a year. Part of the job.

All I’m saying is that when you are at work, you should get paid. If you get paid in shares, you’re grown and can decide. But going to an escape room on a Sunday is not OK.

  • I’m not a video game executive but I’ve been an executive and every single second you make a person do something is on the clock. If you pay people for their time, sure. Go for it. If it’s on your employees’ time, no pay, then absolutely not.

Work is not family or friends. They will cut you like a bad branch and forget you existed. Work your ass off when you’re getting paid to do so. But don’t work for free.

  • I apologize back. I didn’t mean to offend. You never know who you’re talking to on a message board and in rereading it, my comment could easily have been taken as hostile. It’s hard to get nuance across in this medium.

  • I don’t know anything about you, obviously, but I suspect you should to take a more nuanced, historical view of Luddites. Writing someone off as a “Luddite” probably isn’t the burn you think it is.

I’m all for technological progress. Who isn’t? It’s the politics and ownership that causes issues.

  • I’d have ruined that app as a teen and not even by telling the truth. I’d be getting pictures of me in empty parks on a carousel like, “3 head shots, 7 kills.”

  • You assume she’s a cave “crawler” but the axolotl is a salamander that evolved to never reach maturity and crawl.

I think we should take a nuanced view. Maybe she’s a fully-grown idiot. Maybe she’s just an intermediate step on a mistake of evolution.

  • Yeah. The internet had long existed when I was a kid but I was poor and didn’t have a full-on computer until I was 17ish. (We had a Brother Word Processor with a screen so I could write school papers and copy/paste but it was just a word processor. We might need to bring those back in the age of LLMs, actually. Like TI calculators.) But I read a lot and I think that’s what formed my core opinions.

My music taste would be way worse. You couldn’t just “check out a band” back then. I now know that I like I the soul and R&B more than whatever dogshit I listened to in high school.

  • “We don’t have anyone on the list from America.” [citation needed]

  • Gen. Curtis LeMay absolutely would have done that.
