Hi, I'm also Terencio on mastodon.social and Sergio on piefed.social. I mostly use this account to make posts that are easier here.

  • ...when you remember that the moon influences Earthly rainfall...

  • I think "borrow" has a bad connotation in the US. Like: "beg, borrow or steal". But people should remember that it's theirs, they paid for it with their taxes, they're just sharing it with others.

  • My cousin uses the library to get art to hang on their wall. Good stuff too, their library's got a good curator.

  • Reminds me of that parable of that person who was feeding a bird outside their office window every day, and although they didn't know it, they themselves were benefiting from opening the window and getting fresh air. Like, maybe the human who made this post would have gone part deaf if he'd left the TV on so loud.

  • I dunno fam, I wouldn't mess with someone else's tool box without their permission, no matter what our relationship...

  • The sad thing is, 30 seconds with an image editor would have fixed that. But apparently that would be too much work.

  • nah, I like this kind of conversation. back on r$ditt this whole thread woulda been just deleted.

  • I did get a sticker. I also got "sticker shock".

  • Plot twist: once you accept the wheel without reinventing it, you have to pay a monthly wheel subscription.

  • That's fine that you think so. Humor's subjective. tbh I was struggling to explain why I liked this particular strip, because humor is hard to explain. And sometimes this cartoonist's humor doesn't do it for me either. I think that's part of why humor is so valuable, bc of its subjectivity and fragility.

  • If you don't think it's funny that's OK. I'm just gonna explain why I think it's hilarious.

See, the gag of "an omniscient god hanging out with you" could be done in a single panel. Maybe the second panel, slightly modified, maybe it shows the boy and the girl standing next to a broken vase or something. But this comic extends it another couple panels. You see the crying kid and the smug girl. You see the kid with a freakin dunce cap on and the two other kids (with the god) looking at him. You see that their life really is worse because of this. The smug expression and the dunce cap are secondary gags, the real joke is that the stirp's saying: see? it really is bad. See this? See this?

I think it's pretty funny, but if you don't agree that makes sense too.

  • Yeah, it's frustrating to be in that position. Some communities I can post to, but some I only have comments to contribute.

  • One consideration is: is there an "evil genie / monkey's paw" caveat to this? Like, maybe someone's death is postponed, but they are in terrible agony every second until then. Or maybe they die on Mars, but a dictator destroys Earth in the process of getting us there.

That might make a half-decent sci-fi story. Like: someone gains this capability, but they have a notion that there's an evil-genie caveat to it. So they try to advance science, but just a little bit at a time; basically they are experimenting to make sure there's no such caveat (and to get around it, if there is.) However, they are leaving a trail of the dead. And at the end, it turns that while no individual death/accomplishment had a monkeys-paw-like side-effect, all of the deaths combined resulted in a terrible downside.

  • Same. I'd save it for myself in case I was being tortured by terrorists or received a terminal diagnosis or something.

  • I used to have a favorite Zen koan, but I no longer feel an attachment to it. (/jk)
