  • Can someone explain what the issue with this is? I'm sure there's some legitimate gripe but so far, in between the memes about people joining forces to stop this cartoon, all I've been able to surmise is that people think the style is ugly (even though it looks the same as 80% of cartoon network stuff), and that there are people calling it "heterophobic" and crying that the villains are straight or something.

    Are there any non manosphere people that can explain what the big fuss is?

  • I still can't believe that there's actual real people that speak about the "woke" and not just basement dwelling incels on the internet. And we're supposed to keep taking them seriously afterwards. I think that if someone spoke about "woke culture" irl, I would probably laugh in their faces.

  • The way I see it, this is just the nature of the meme. People make memes, people take memes, and they travel around the world wide web, and end up with ifunny and 9gag and collegehumor watermarks, and in the form of badly cropped screenshots. That logo is just a scar that this wild meme picked up somewhere along the way. It's just nature.

  • Most 'nerd' stuff. Comic book movie discussion has gone to shit because people have become weird about it. When it's not manosphere bullshit, it's people expecting Endgame level quality and stakes for every single movie now, who would've shat on Iron Man if it came out today, and who need to be reminded of the absolute horse shit that we used to get. They're starting to rival the Star Wars fans in terms of being insufferable.

    Outside of the cosy games spaces that I've been hanging around, all I ever hear from Gamers™ is some controversy about a female character being a game. Or gasp a black character. They're happy with the main protagonist being a woman if the jiggle psychics are set to max though.

    And online at least, the alternative scene has gone to shit. People from the anti jock subcultures started listening to jocks with microphones on podcasts. People who grew up listening to Jonathan Davis singing about being called a "faget", went on to become people who call others "betas". Metal went from representing rebellion to representing people who go "stop making it political".

    And so many 'punks' seem to have become Joe Rogan fans too. I've even had to argue with people calling me a "woke lefty" in fan spaces for The Clash. We all laughed when Joe Rogan said "conservative is the new punk" but it's an even bigger joke because half the people that took his word for it were punks.

  • I'd also love to get some examples, seeing as it's apparently such a scourge. I know that it sometimes happens but I'm struggling to think of enough examples for it to actually be this big issue like these people try and make it out to be.

    Personally, I think that people who cry about the "historical accuracy" of an Ancient Greek myth, and the casting of a demi-god that hatched from an egg, need to fuck off.

  • I'm in a socially conservative country, in a smallish town populated by elderly retirees, families and dirt poor marginally educated people. In the days before people were scrolling conspiracy theories about George Soros and litter boxes for cat identifying kids in librul schools on Facebook and Twitter, I wouldn't been a more open person. Now, they'll only get to know my public deaf-mute alter ego and never know that I'm a vigilante lol.

    I wish I was in a city where there's a bigger chance of meeting others like you.

  • As someone that hasn't been around here for a few months, I'm just going to guess that it's these freeze peach people who feel entitled to say whatever they want wherever they want, and like the rules don't apply to them.

    They were complaining about the Blahaj admin a lot as well before because she's hardcore with moderation just like the instance says on the tin. And the neckbeard edgelords that grew up using 4chan and think it's "early internet", always get up in arms when moderators and admins try to create spaces for like-minded people without needing to 'debate' bigots, just like they did on the actual early internet on forum sites.

    This doesn't excite me enough to do my homework particularly but I'm gonna guess there's more to this than "wah the evil blue haired SJW with nose rings is censoring us with the woke agenda".

  • I would say it's a subjective thing. Looking back at friendships that I had along the way, "deep and meaningful" conversations happen when you've sparked with each other enough to let the walls down and just talk about life, the universe without worrying that you sound like you're high or whatever.

    So I don't think it's something that can be forced either. It just happens when you meet someone on the same wavelength as you. Easier to come across in real life than social media because no one really talks one on one on social media. Or it's rare. Reddit style platforms are generally good for the 'deep' part but not the connection part.

    Lmao way to turn that on me, good one. I'm literally talking about the people who can't just scroll past or block something without needing to act like it was forced on them. The people who campaign to cancel Netflix over 1 show out of 1000s that they could've just scrolled past. The people who live in an era where you can follow exactly what you want online, and watch and listen to exactly what you want on streaming, but still complain about having the wOkE aGeNdA shoved down their throats because they're incapable of wiping their asses (or they think it's gay).

    Trust me, I'm not the one with the problem of inserting my business everywhere that I don't belong. I'm not going anywhere near incel forums, or manosphere support groups, or to tell people how fucking stupid their hobbies are. And knowing these people, I'd get banned quickly if I did because they're the biggest pearl clutchers of all. This problem is entirely one sided and caused by certain types of people who are more emboldened than ever these days.

  • Personally I think that this Reddit style is an upgrade design wise. And as far as recognising people goes, I'm using an app that lets you tag users (Summit) and this has gone quite a long way. It's also made the start paying attention to other usernames to an extent, so if I notice that someone often posts content that vibes with me or whatever, I can give them a ⭐ or something.

    What I do miss from the days when forums were dominant is that people stayed in their lanes a little more. A particular forum or board or even thread is for a particular topic, and people who derailed or came along just to insult and shit on everything were dealt with, without this crying about 'free speech'.

    Current day social media has spawned a bunch of people who feel entitled to say whatever they want to whoever they want in any space they want, and cry about blue haired SJWs or something if there's consequences. And they act like the internet used to be this place where forum moderators didn't rule with an iron fist, or like the 'real world' is somewhere that you can behave this way without being punched in the face.

    I just think a lot of problems could be solved if jocks went back to discussing sportsball and cars and stayed in their lanes, instead of considering themselves to be experts on biology and sociology and vaccines. There's a fine line between 'free speech' and letting the inmates run the asylum, and the last 10 years have proven that.

    Basically what I miss from the forum days is that back then, the conspiracy theorist idiots would've probably been banned, and would've stayed in the fringes of society instead of going mainstream.

  • Yeah I was just coming to say as well, the biggest issue with this is mods.

    And in games like Stardew Valley, the other issue is the game seed. If you keep using the same save, a lot of the same 'random' events will occur.

  • To be cliche, probably the Bethesda style character creation, just because you can tweak so much. That's probably the best I've got because my current laptop is a potato and Skyrim is about the most intensive that it can (barely) handle.

    A huge issue I have with it though, is that after all that tweaking and fine tuning of your character, you can't save or load templates. So sometimes I'll spend ages creating a character, start the same and play for a bit, then for whatever reason decide to start again an hour later (regrettable choice, a faulty mod etc.), and now I have to create a character all over again. At that point I just choose basics and hit play.

    This is an annoyance to me in all games with character creation though. Even something simpler like Stardew Valley, especially if you're trying to get the colours just right.

    If you're going to give us the ability to create and fine tune personalized characters, let us save and load them, god damnit.
