  • TAS seems to be all ideas that they had during TOS that they were not able to accomplish with their limited budget in live action but they could get away with in animation. Things like weird non-humanoid alien main characters, characters breathing underwater, characters becoming giants, etc.

  • AVIF is often unsupported, but in recent years, most sites seem to accept WebP. There was certainly a time in which most sites rejected WebP, and there are a handful of websites that still do have issues with it today, but it is certainly not "half the internet" at this point.

EDIT: Your main point is definitely true, though. It took several years to reach this level of WebP compatibility, and its still not perfect. JPEG XL compatibility adoption will unfortunately likely be just about as slow.

  • Do you have some experimental flag enabled or something? Neither link is working for me on LibreWolf.

Regardless, it is good to know that when Firefox supports JPEG XL, it seems to support animated ones.

EDIT: I just enabled that, and both of the above links work as expected!

    1. Navigate to about:config

    2. Search jxl

    3. Toggle image.jxl.enabled to true

Actually, see what @mschae@discuss.mschae23.de posted below. That is likely a safer method than messing with about:config

  • Don't expect anything revolutionary, but I really enjoyed it.

  • I also seem to remember a lot of zoomed in faces. I'm wondering now if that was another trick to avoid animating lips

  • Will animated JPEG XL be supported? I like to make animated images and dislike GIF for obvious reasons, but WebP is not a perfect replacement for philosophical reasons. I am eager for more programs to support JPEG XL so I can use that format for the animations that I create.

But in my experience with WebP, some programs that claim to support that format only support static WebP images. When they encounter an animated WebP, some programs only render the first frame of that animation. Due to that experience, I am hesitant to assume that animated JPEG XL images will work just because static ones do.

If you want to test, here is an animated JPEG XL I made a while ago: https://files.catbox.moe/80ottu.jxl

  • tias be like

  • This, but drugs.

  • Tweaked the format a bit. Now it has roughly the same greater number of individuals raising their hands, the panels are cropped in such a way that we only see individuals who are raising their hands, and the final image is in a 3:4 aspect ratio like I prefer.

  • Entire Delta quadrant and Tuvix raise their hands.

Can you actually think of a scene when that happens, or are you just making a joke?

  • Works for me. Not sure which version here I like better: the one showing literally everyone raising their hand, or the one showing more different individuals voting but one of them is not raising their hand

  • That looks like I could make it work! But what villain would it mention instead of Regina George? If I remember correctly, this arc in Discovery didn't really have an individual acting as an antagonist like Dukat, Winn, Jellico, etc. I just remember the threats being more abstract, like Species 10-C or the Dark Matter Anomaly.

  • I am drawing a blank. Can you provide more context to help me track down which episode that was exactly?

  • Weed was fine with me up until my early 20s, but then it changed somehow.

EDIT: I may have misinterpreted that comment. Leaving that meme anyway.

  • Not sure why this is getting down voted, because it seems to be a genuine question. Yes, it was a real issue, and as far as I know, it still applies in this new release.

  • I think they were civilians, not part of starfleet. I remember the TNG episode "Lower Decks" where that server or whatever in Ten Forward mentions how he's a civilian and can call Riker "Will".
