A lot of the European antique that the West loves to pride itself in, such as the work of Roman and Greek philosophers and scientists were only preserved by the Muslims in the Middle East and subsequently rediscovered from Arabic and Persian works. So a lot of European culture and history was preserved by outsiders as the white barbarians couldn't hack it. Unlike the imperial museums in the UK, France, Germany or other countries, that preservation was achieved largely without pillaging.

  • Yes, it is intentional. And the "never attribute to malice what you can attribute to incompetence" trope is clearly wrong in the context of politicians.

    When they do these things they know what they are doing and who they are doing it for. Imagine an engineer would have designed 10 generations of exploding phones. Would you say it is just incompetence after the third one? So why give politicians the slack to always be "incompetent" in the same way over and over again that just so happens to defend the interests of the oligarchy against the normal people?

  • Know where to pitch a tent.

    If you are close to a stream, pitch the tent a few meters above the water. If it rains you don't know how quickly it can rise.

    In the same wake, if you are pitching on a plain, pitch your tent on a relative rise. If you pitch in a relative depression rain will drench you.

    If you pitch on a slope, and there will usually be slight slopes, pitch your tent so, that your head is facing upwards when sleeping.

    If a storm is expected you might be inclined to pitch under a tree, but be careful. If a branch breaks off and hits you, that can be very bad.

    If you pitch your tent in the open and it is a hot summer, the inside will get very hot very quickly. Make sure to get up and out early, don't get wasted at night and bring reflective covering. People died at festivals when they stayed in their tents when getting wasted and then getting roasted in their tents.

    For instance in Brandenburg and Schleswig-Holstein you can camp "in the wild"*

    *there is limits in natural preserves, and what is defined as camping can vary. e.g. tarp vs tent, obv. no RVs...

    If we look further at unethical experiments done on primarily black communities or prison inmates, again primarily black, such as testing biological warfare agents and pharmaceutics on them, regular lynching and other acts of deadly violence, the whole forced labour in the prison system... It becomes clear, that the government still very much considered the former slaves and their descendants as property, they could largely do with as they pleased.

  • But you can't leave the property because you cannot afford rent anywhere else. You can't get a different job, because there is no different job available in the area. You can't get a better education because you cannot pay for it or even if it is free you cannot pay for your survival without the full time job, or multiple part time jobs.     Of course from the formal rights it is a huge difference, however from the practical result, modern wage work for working class people creates similarly unfree conditions. And it is no surprise that the ardent Neoliberals want to go further and establish slavery, by allowing contracts where people sell themselves "voluntarily" into permanent ownership of somebody else. This is the ultimate freedom according to these kind of Capitalists and they work to create such a society.

    Whatever the reason that you feel you have to abuse drugs as a coping mechanism, it will only make things worse. You will not be able to process your emotions, you will not be able to think clear about what is your best way forward and you will not be able to grow stronger while drugged up.

    The fact that you say you "needed to be anesthetized" for an uncomfortable conversation screams that you are either already having a drug abuse problem and that you have issues with your emotional regulation.

  • I wonder if this is related to how ChatGPT and other models provided as a service have been filtered.

    E.g. them being "forced" to be nice and more agreeable.

    If that turns out to be the case, i'd wager that it is impossible to filter for every possible constellation and outcome as we have seen with people hacking through clever prompting in ever more sophisticated ways.

    I find it particularly worrying that people without any prior signs of mental health issues got sucked into severe delusions and the article suggests that the "AI" being marketed as reliable and impartial is key to it. This means the companies behind will not address this fundamental misconception as their business model is built on it.

    I dont see how these cases could be prevented without extreme regulatory intervention.
