  • Because i can search by author, type of content, communities, timeframe and keywords.

    But also i dont get your argument from the logical basis of it. Reddit did not write the Lemmy code. There is no relation as to why the reddit search function should be an indicator of how the lemmy search function works.

    You are asking why George shouldnt also be better in math than Lisa, because Jon is better in math than Robert. Just that Lisa and Robert are in completely different schools in different countries.

    At the very least to coordinate and pay the people with guns. But to pay the people with guns you need people collecting taxes. So you need tax administration. And in order to have taxes to collect, you need a functioning economy, so you need infrastructure like roads. So now you need an office where roads are planned built and maintained. And you want electricity, but grid is complicated, so you need an office for that. Also your underlings still need to eat, so you need to organize agriculture and transportation of food...

    It all boils down to needing a reasonably staffed administration. So yes, a full shutdown will slow down the takeover.

    As for searching in Lemmy, there is a powerful search option right next to your notifications. I strongly doubt that google could provide you such a good search when it had all the content crawled.

    I think learning about the UI is a better solution, than giving everything to Google or Microsoft.

    After hours of nothing working, i got desperate and just flipped through the menu of the printer on this small LCD display. There is a DHCP setting. The DHCP is set to a fixed address. The router every now and then reboots and gives new dynamic addresses. The printer refused its dynamic address all this time.

    I don't think we will get any further here. If you cannot see why Lemmy should be more than just "win over Reddit" i dont think anything will convince you. The problems of enshittification are hitting all aspects of the Internet and companies like Google and Microsoft are a major part of it and undoubtedly more problematic than reddit.

    Again as i said, we should not focus on destroying corporations or any other external negative thing, but instead on building a positive version of the internet, so focus on a positive internal goal. Cooperating with the organizations who fundamentally oppose this vision of the internet is not going to help that.

  • Duckduckgo uses Bing for its index, so we run into the same problem with Microsoft.

    Think about the steps involved. First Lemmy servers make all data available to these companies. Now these companies can exploit this data fully. But the next step, it leading to lemmy results being featured on their website is no guarantee. They can just keep it low.

    And i dont care about Lemmy being larger than reddit. It is not just about reddit. It is about fundamentally creating a space thriving for a positove vision of how the internet should be. Handing influence to Google and Microsoft is fundamentally opposed to that.

    Finally, reddit is destroying itself. Why should we compromise ourselves, when we can just watch reddit burning itself down, while more and more people join us?

    Google doesnt care for traffic to Lemmy. Google cares for making money off the data they can grab. Not giving them the data directly is the only way to oppose them.

    Your idea is to finance the war by selling weapons to your enemy, to use this metaphor of yours.

  • Well, they tried social media with calling Harris a "brat" because some popstar did. Well turns out having millionaire and billionaire capitalist artists embrace you does not rally people. Turns out people are more sensible than thinking "hey this musician i like said i should vote for this one. Guess that is all i need". Also i found this kind of endorsement seeking quite insulting as it shows how little intelligence they expect of their voters.

    Pulling out of Afghanistan was reasonable. The US should have learned since Vietnam, that they are not fixing anything with invading other countries and forcing a regime change. However they also don't want to fix anything. They want to destabilize and destroy, to prevent regions from emerging as economic and strategic competitors and to enrich their MIC buddies.

    Also Vietnam was not a war fought primarily against North Vietnam, it was fought against the civilian resistance against the French/US installed colonial regime in South Vietnam.

    Once she was announced candidate, she had all the options to go for her own platform and grow a spine, if she has one. Also that is a quality that is crucial in a president, who wants to lead the supposedly most powerful country on earth.

    And this shows, what the DNC wants. They dont want a strong leader. They want a puppet they can control. This is also why they were more than happy to have Biden go for another 4 years, not despite, but because of his declining mental state making him a great puppet.

    First of all, the comfy range for humans is small and it is not even. E.g. most people will find around body temperature of 37°C nice. But 5 °C above that is burning hot, while 32°C is more lukewarm, than cold.

    Then the cold water temp is probably between 10 °C and 15°C depending how long it stood. Same of the hot water temperature, where the first bit in the pipe is more like 20°C and then the boiler comes pushing 60°C in.

    So the temperature range that gets mixed changes drastically in the beginning and small changes can make for a large difference in the "center" of the mixing, which is also where the comfy temperatures are.
