Hello! I'm a POC (black/latino) autistic/ADHD dragon from Brazil. I use he/they/it pronouns, and my interests are usually gaming and drawing. Reddit refugee after getting banned multiple times for "threatening violence" for standing up against fascism.

  • Those people were not being ironic, no. I think it's just a phenomenon that is excessively more common amongst internet MLs. Real life MLs are okay for the most part. Internet MLs are pretty much a cult that will try to take over ANY leftist community or be the dominant form of leftist discourse through any means necessary and will excessively push propaganda from literal fascists because they happen to be against liberals.

    All I'm saying is that an embarrassing amount of leftists are terminally online and unable to do anything to try to push leftism other than argue with liberals online and spout hate towards those they see as "betraying" leftism. Those people don't actually do any organization IRL, which to me is a blessing... but sometimes that doesn't work. Brazil, and by extension all of South America, has a very bad problem with MLs dominating online AND IRL discourse, making it hard for other forms of leftism to be considered or even debated in good faith.

  • Real life marxists tend to be okay, I don't mind them. But, online those people literally try to dominate ALL discourse in leftism to the point where every single contact people have with leftists is someone who believes those things unironically.

  • I am aware of that. I'm just like... I see a lot of "leftists" that think "successful socialist projects" have to replicate the USSR 100% with everything good and bad about it mixed in. If your definition of "building a better world" is killing or enslaving people for disagreeing with you, you are not a leftist, you're a nazbol.

    And like, the USSR clearly does not exist anymore, and for most of its existence it made a joke out of socialist principles.

  • No. I've seen marxist-leninists, maoists, and anyone in that area of thought arguing the following:

    • LGBTQ+ identities are bourgeois degeneracy
    • Trans people are a capitalist invention to divide workers
    • Nazis have a point when it comes to nationalism
    • Assad and Putin are leftists
    • Anarchism has never been tried successfully (because every time someone tried they got betrayed by MLs and executed by them for wrongthink)
    • Animal Farm is capitalist propaganda
    • Killing millions of people is necessary for a better world
    • States are 100% necessary for the development of socialism
    • China is communist or will be communist by 2050
    • Ukraine is a Nazi state who deserves to be invaded
    • Russia taking children from Ukraine and relocating them is just them being nice and removing them out of the warzone
    • Anarchists are all children who don't know better
    • The socialist state must uphold "traditional values"
    • Stalin exclusively killed Nazis
    • The only valid leftist theory is the one that argues Marxism-Leninism is correct
    • "Socialist" police are a good thing because they don't serve capital, they serve the people
    • Leftists who don't agree with us are enemies of the revolution and should be enslaved because they will attempt to overthrow our successful socialist state

    If you think ANY of those arguments are valid for leftism, then I'm sorry, but I don't want you around me.

  • The problem lies when one particular set of "leftists" thinks the best way foward is to have a literal capitalist state with a red flag and execute anyone who could even be a minimal obstacle to that.

  • I am very aware of that! I don't like Hamas' governance or how they treat Gazans in general. Israel just happens to be even worse for some reason, despite being the so-called "civilized" country. Israel funded Hamas exactly because they knew they would undermine the PLO and prevent a Palestinian socialist state from forming in the region.

  • Well basically Reddit kept doing two things. One, NOT doing anything about blatant botting, dogpiling, and brigading even on huge subreddits. Every thread about certain topics would get over a thousand comments all swinging one exact direction, it was extremely blatant. Any thread about Israel or pit bulls would get instantly brigaded and calling for the death of palestinians/pits in extremely violent ways and Reddit did nothing every time. And two, I kept getting banned for HINTING at fighting back against the current wave of fascism. Not to mention, the API support being killed AND the CEO of Reddit being an Elon Musk simp were also nails in the coffin of it for me.

    Plus the environment of people posting constant ragebait was not doing favors to my mental health.

    The entire concept of the Fediverse is anarchist. Of course anti-capitalists at large would be on it, because the capitalists are all over every other social media network. And besides, Tumblr constantly tells billionaires/politicians to die despite being corporate-run social media and literally nothing comes out of it.

  • He's explicitly talking about detracting people who are "violent" and call him a "bootlicker" for "deescalating". It seems like it's moderator speak for "people are saying politicians/billionaires should die and that personally offends me". It's enlightened centrism. People came to Lemmy explicitily because Reddit bans you for disliking billionaires now.

    Like, the entire concept of the Fediverse is anarchist. It's a collection of decentralized servers who can connect to each other but have their own rules. Someone going to develop for the LITERAL ANARCHIST SOCIAL MEDIA STRUCTURE and then getting surprised that everyone on it is anti-capitalist and anti-billionaire is the epitome of arrogance and lack of self-awareness.

  • I usually book an appointment. Appear on the proper day. Get my exams done, leave, no money spent. If it's like a screening for something that can be done in a public health clinic, I'll go, spend about 30 mins to one hour waiting, talk to the doc, get whatever prescriptions they give me, get discharged and go home, no money spent.
