  • Who cares about the DSA? Seems fairly irrelevant.

  • I see workaholism as basically identical to emotional unavailability

Pretty sure workaholics don't see it that way. And that seems like a fairly inevitable conflict point if you're dating someone who works a lot. Your opinion seems clear, you don't want to date a workaholic.

Myself, I would probably have some of the same problems you have. Not sure if I'd want to be with someone who is routinely unavailable. But there it's a trade off, people need a job, I'm sure I'd tolerate it to a point. Not sure where that breaking point would be specifically. I've noticed people who are workaholics usually have a work hard phase then a play hard phase, where they spend a bunch of money and own a bunch of random toys. Even though they're usually only available like 3 days a month to use them. I'm not as much of a 'big splurge purchase' kind of person. So not sure that personality type would do well with me.

  • Yes, it's a sex trafficking law. Many of the most prominent examples, especially the older ones, were junk. They arrested the world heavyweight champion Jack Johnson because he had a white girlfriend. For 'sex trafficking' her.

Originally the 'white slavery' act (prostitution aka 'white slavery' was a common term around the late 18th-early 19th-century). Anyone accused of violating this bill was basically being accused of being a pimp.

  • The implication is that the USA eventually takes over South America, right?

  • Comedian Lenny Bruce was repeatedly arrested and prosecuted for "obscenity" for using swear words in his comedy act. All things that would be considered fairly tame and normal comedy today.

Pretty much anyone who was prosecuted using the Mann Act. Which was used to attack foreigners and undesirable minorities. Generally labeled them having girlfriends as "sex trafficking".

Chaplin met Joan Barry, age 24, in 1941. He signed her to a $75-a-week contract for a film he was putting together, and she became his mistress. By mid-1942, Chaplin let her contract expire. To send her home, Chaplin paid her train fare to New York which led to his arrest.[23][25] Chaplin was acquitted of the charges.

Paid for your mistress to go home? Sex trafficking!

  • To be clear, could I be denied entry into the country for simply refusing to give my phone's password?

  • No, bb forums were like one singular sub/instance with lots of dedicated people and like 3 'off topic' sections for the fans of that subject to talk about nothing.

  • Another grift. Of course they're gonna partner with a specific pharma company.

  • There are significantly fewer bugs on monoculture lawns. Never been clear if that's from all the poison, or if it's from the lack of plant diversity.

  • Stardew Valley, GTA5, Cities Skylines. All games that you can basically buy once and be done. I can put them down, come back in 2-4 months, and pick up right where I left off.

    Also here's Half Life 2 in a browser: https://hl2.slqnt.dev/

  • My complaint: I don't want to pay every month

Your solution: Play for only 1 month

Problem not solved. I'd much rather buy a game where I get to play as long as I want.

  • So everyone is paying a 20% fee now, but Trump is spinning it as his idea?

  • If you're a daily player, sure. But I'm the kind of person who can play every day for maybe a week, but then I'll take a month or four off before I pick it up again. The monthly billing system does not align with how I like to play games.

  • Yes, also World of Warcraft, anything like that with a subscription. PS+/Xbox Game Pass was the death blow for console gaming for me. I want to buy the game, play the game. Not be paying each month.

  • Printers are a loss leader for selling ink cartridges. I have done my recent printing at Walgreens. It's about 25 cents per page and I don't need it very often.

Video games. I stopped buying games because they started requiring a monthly subscription to play.

  • A signature within the panel that can't be cropped out is pretty standard. Just signing your name. Look at https://lemmy.world/c/garfield for example. Like sometimes he has signature in the 1st panel, date in the final panel.

  • Love how they cropped out any signature.

  • If you're gonna revise the title, get rid of the term "boomer obsession." It's demeaning to the millions of people who died.

  • No, and I find this question kind of concerning. It suggests that we should forget the lessons of the past.
