The only possible way Google can block installing apps from F-Droid (and other app stores) is to have software on the phone that scans apps as they are being installed.
I doubt if modded OSs will ever have that software. If the devs of custom roms are too lazy to remove the junk they will not have many users.
I completely agree. Nearly every product, service, or company in the privacy sphere has some controversy. If I based my choices on the lack of shitty behaviour, I would have to give up on the internet completely.

About the only thing I looked at on Bluesky was a feed from my home town. BS is great for local news and events. The only thing better is my collection of rss feeds. I closed my account before they started with the identity verification bs. Bluesky is largely vibe-coded if that is an issue for you.
