  • Get my landline telephone set up, ofc download a bunch of emulators and entire game libraries and wikipedia, make sure any cloud file backups I have made a copy locally, put my meshcore and meshtastic nodes online, try to get some technerds together to start an airgapped DC++ fileshare... those are what i'll start with. Probably make sure I'm close to my friends and family.

  • An W11 update in February took my work computer 1 hour to update, even Windows put "estimated 50 mins" on the Windows Update screen. Decently fast processor, 16GB RAM and SSD.

    I think our IT manager paused updates for everyone in late January because of all the issues it was causing, then that Friday afternoon I walked around the office and saw a bunch of people taking a "second lunch" because their computer was in the process of updating Windows.

    I don't doubt the average resident is indeed that stupid enough to become distracted, but these data centres will present real harms for very little to no public benefit which unsurprisingly keeps them focused.
