  • My version of the Jerboa app doesn't explicitly say how to add alt text, so I think it's partially an app support issue. I only know how to do it for inline comment images.

    Boosting itself is closer to Mastodon terminology to begin with. The idea of reblogging a single comment or reply isn't as prevalent, as much as crossposting a thread.

    I've added alt text as part of links in most of my comments with images or videos, I just don't know if anyone has seen them? Can you view this one?

  • What you're talking about is something I've learned a lot more in the last couple years. It came about because I'm trying to consume fewer things that are Made in the USA, as a Canadian.

    But there are many instances of a product Made in Canada by companies that are headquartered in the USA, sometimes with a Canadian subsidiary. I try to look for local alternatives first, then domestic, then international, then American brand but made in Canada, only then if there are no other options and I can't do without I buy the American option.

    One funny one is that the American Playing Card Company bought out a whole bunch of other card brands over the decades, they make cards in the USA, in Brazil and other places. But then Cartamundi, a Belgian company, bought them out and now are the largest playing card supplier. So I'm now confused how American the American Playing Card Company is to determine how strongly I should boycot it.

    My suggestion is to try pulse audio volume control (pavucontrol), you get a pretty decent number of options to look through and troubleshoot, in case it's routing to non-existent display monitor speakers or like a separate headphone jack instead of Lineout, etc.

It must articulate a broad new conception of the nation’s political order — one that will guide the way a future Democratic-led government might wield power. Above all, Democrats must have a plan for reconstruction — for building something new on the wreckage of what President Trump, MAGA and the Republican Party have wrought — not restoration of what was.

    The whole article puts eloquent prose to the thoughts in my head (looking from outside the US) as to what the USA needs to recover post-Trump; it's more than striving to going back to normal.

    The issue is that centrist Democratic voices have been kind of developing their vision by committee over any aims to make it cohesive and comprehensive. In my view the plan has to recognize and tackle these three things:

    • Internal complacency within the Democratic party to do good things for people rather than just talk about them
    • Reforming the outdated systems that simply relied on trust that the system wouldn't corrupt itself or overlook corruption.
    • Fixing the destruction caused by the Trump administration, then taking steps to prevent a cult like Congress and a bought-and-paid-for judiciary to surrender the republic to the executive.

    The important thing is you can't grandfather in the corruption while you fix it.
