  • The heat from something like a datacenter will be far more localized and could damage the immediate area. I’m not saying they’ll magically warm the entire ocean any more than they would on land dumping waste heat into the atmosphere, but local temperature changes could have an effect.

    Anyone can see gravity does indeed exist and does gravity things, it’s the extent of the properties of gravity that need to be left to the experts.

    So yes, Hitler did do genocidal things regardless of whether or not he had a court convict him of those things, and no, we don’t need “allegedly” as pedantry or exploiting an irrelevant technicality.

    Overrun by enshittification, rent extracting corporations that have decided that this is cheaper and more profitable than R&D into actual new tech, billionaires using the world economy and geopolitical stability as their personal playthings, the rise of aggressively willful ignorance, massive social media disinformation campaigns on the State level, growing nationalism and fascism, and all that under the warming atmosphere that is destroying our food, water supplies, and lives.

    And the only thing that could potentially at least hopefully mitigate the life-threatening issues is Fusion Power, but only if it actually works in time to help us discard the majority of fossil fuel use and maybe directly power carbon extraction from the atmosphere. But I doubt we’ll make that goal.

  • You skip past the part where lots of software doesn’t work on linux, or there are tons of hoops to jump through to get it to work, and once it’s working it can be broken by an update or upgrade. And no, not everything everyone uses has a 1:1 Linux equivalent.

    What works on linux works great. No complaints there.

  • I would say it’s less hostile than the rest of the internet unless you disagree with people in a /c on the subject it’s named after or the instance hivemind. IOW saying Windows has lots of good points in /linux or saying Ukraine is right to take the war to Russia in a .ml /c is likely not going to go well for you.

    I appreciate the seriousness here though, I was wholly sick and tired of Reddit’s handing karma to flippant comments even on serious subjects so that the actual discussion was buried or ignored under the same old retreaded humor.

    As far as the rest, it’s no different here than other social media. People always trying to exploit technicalities or engage in pedantry to get the last say in a discussion, engage in other argument fallacies like hypocrisy, etc. I do find that’s a little worse here thanks to how much politics is discussed and all the shit that’s happening in the world right now.

  • 2024 and 2026 Prius both show 57/56 city/highway economy on fueleconomy.gov for the most economic models. The 2022 shows 54/50, the 2019 58/53.

    So it looks like average economy has improved.

    As for cargo, that’s unfortunate to lose space, but if they can get more people to buy the car because it looks more “normal” then that’s better, no?
