  • When someone says “I miss the old forums” I think they probably know they still exist and are lamenting the lack of the ubiquity of them and not a total disappearance.

As for the rest, yeah. The internet has always been that way. Shitty mods, trolls, whatever.

  • Most Americans did not vote for Trump.

Here’s how it works: US Population, adult over 18: ~250 million.

Of that population, ~244 million are eligible to vote.

Of eligible voters, only 63.9% voted.

Of the 63.9%, less than half, 49.8%, went to Trump.

To re-emphasize that point, Trump did not get more than 50%.

As far as not voting against trump being a vote for trump, I’m not going to entertain that at all. Might as well say they were for Putin to be president, the flying spaghetti monster to be president, whatever.

  • A vote for none is still a vote.

No it isn’t. what a ridiculous concept. Then everyone who didn’t vote voted for Harris, and therefore the country voted for Harris.

The majority of Americans were supportive of a second trump presidency.

Buddy, keep jerkin’ yourself off with that if it makes you feel better. I can tell you’ve looked at zero polls and voting numbers because you’re just making shit up.

  • Again. The MAJORITY of voters did NOT vote for trump. Read what I wrote. You are wrong. As for “not voting against trump”, that’s the same as not voting to keep the sky blue. You can’t prove a negative.

  • Oh good, let’s focus on voting and not things like gerrymandering and Citizens United. Or even the Electoral College. The candidate with the most money usually wins, so even if you change how voting works odds are it’s still gonna be a republican or democrat frontrunner.

  • Gotta love 67. It’s so ubiquitous it’s become meaningless. From basketball to 67 kid, it’s pretty much whatever anyone wants it to be.

  • Discord’s format 100% absolutely sucks. It’s like they took one look at how forums normally work and decided to do the exact opposite and mix it with IRC to boot. I almost never use it.

  • What an idiot. Next thing he’ll be calling entire years invalid or some idiotic crap.

  • Everyone here saying they still exist.

    That’s not the point.

The variety and quantity have all been replaced by spaces like Facebook, Youtube, Discord, and Reddit. Heck, I used to help run two gaming phpBB forums and participate in several others. They’re all gone or the groups have moved to Discord or whatever. PhpBB forums were usually run by private individuals, modded by those with shared interest, and subsisted on donations to run if the owner didn’t just pay for it out of pocket. It was still a little bit of the “old internet” where anyone could create their own slice of it for next to nothing.

I miss them because is was a concentration of each niche and there usually wasn’t much competition. No competition for “likes” or whatever. More of a conversation. If you were into something like old tractor restoration (this one still exists as a forum), you could find a wealth of knowledge in text and photo form, videos, if any, are short and generally to the point without deliberate monetization. I absolutely cannot stand YT as a “information” source because of the constant fluff generation to extend the video for adspace and groveling for subscribers. But that’s a whole different rant.

Anyway, yeah…some forums do still exist. Thankfully they’re generally pretty good at what they do. The others have vanished or moved to corporate social media platforms.

  • The majority of voters did not vote for trump. No idea what point you’re trying to make.

  • The choices have devolved to “fascists” or fucking do-nothing idiots at this point.

  • There are several US states that can cite for passing in the right, though I don’t think I’ve ever heard of it happening.

  • I dislike the unintentional association of “America” being those who support trump. America is not a trump supporter. 32% of the voting population does not constitute “America.” The majority of voters did not vote for trump.

  • Depends. If in the US the majority of states have “keep right except to pass” laws along with “failure to yield” laws. Some states do have exceptions for busy merging areas that say taking the center lane is acceptable for the duration.

So if someone is camping the center lane slower than prevailing traffic in that lane they are potentially violating two laws.

I don’t know where you are, so I write this for US people seeing as there seems to be a growing issue of people using the center of three lanes as a slow lane and it really fucks up the flow.

  • The familiarity. I knew where everything was. Businesses, places to go for leisure, outdoor activities, beach, skiing, whatever. I knew streets, neighborhoods, demographics, etc. Friends, the people I grew up with, where people lived… The very essence of what “roots” are.

I’ve moved so many times that I still don’t know 95% of the street names where I’ve lived for the last 5 years. I have to look online for businesses to see what is available and take a guess which one might work. Eating out someplace new is a risk, who knows if it’s any good.

That all said, leaving has presented far, far more opportunity and done better for me than staying in my hometown ever would have.

But I’m tired of moving. I need roots again. I miss that.

  • I’m sure they’ll get picked up by The Heritage Foundation or some other Right Wing org and protected. Can’t have the spineless lackeys spilling the beans.

  • They only claim to love nature so they can kill it. They bitch about seasons and the government limiting what they can take. Just like they say they “love America” but want to mow down the forests that make it beautiful and pave over it with oil derricks and gas pipelines. The same way they’re all about “gun safety” but leave guns where they can be used for everything from accidental shootings to be stolen and used in crimes.

They don’t mean what they say.

  • There’s enough spineless tools and right wingnuts, just like ICE, that would be happy to pull the trigger.

  • Baking isn’t as restrictive as most people think it is, you can do quite a bit. However, it’s a lot shorter path to failure and creating an inedible gummy mess vs maybe oversalting a steak a little.
