  • I meant using a linux VM to run docker (With Rancher Desktop).

    WSL started eating RAM like if there's was no tomorrow for no reason, even when idle. And considering we had to run memory and cpu intensive tasks, that was a big problem. Several colleges saw the same issue and we all ended up moving to Mac for that reason (well, some of them just because "shiny").

  • I got a Mac at work because the Linux on Mac didn't suck as much as the Linux on windows (docker).

    My 8 years old mid range PC beats both to dust on development using the Linux on Linux, but somehow the bosses don't value my time.

    Granted I am used to the web version from the time I used Linux at work. The windows version seemed much worse in comparison

  • As somebody who has done this unofficially for 10 years... Don't do it. For the entirety of those 10 years IT knew something was odd with my computer (they didn't see, IT was India based) but they couldn't be bothered to do anything about it.

    In a proper company they will know and swiftly act.

    I assume it relies on external servers for processing, so it was a matter of time though.

  • The files WILL be scanned the second they leave your device to any major cloud.

    There are services with e2e and you can encrypt before uploading to those who can't.

    Realistically speaking, if this was implement anybody with CSAM would just not use iPhones, and all scanning would be done on everyone else.

    Then, once implemented and with less fanfare some authoritarian regimes (won't say any to not upset the tankies) can ask apple to scan for other material too... And as it's closed source we wouldn't even know that the models are different by country.

    I don't know if that will work, but I respect that more than he killed the pig without making clear why.
