  • I was so invested in the OT... and no more movies came, so I accepted there wouldn't be more movies.

    As such when they came out and were shitty, I didn't mind as much.

    That's made it easier for me to dip in and enjoy some of the new content. I'm not expecting it to be good, and can be surprised when it is.

    Have you ever been experienced a natural disaster? If so, which one?

  • Hurricane in Florida in the 80s, but I was far enough inland to not be in danger. The eye of the storm is really spooky. Complete and utter silence.

    Also the 1991 snowstorm in Duluth MN. Started snowing on Halloween and didn't stop for three days. We had four feet of snow in the yard.

    That was a lot of fun, the town was paralyzed for a couple of days until the plows started to get things in order.

    There's a comedian I saw on An Evening at the Improv in the late 1980s who was doing a detective schtick.

    The joke I remember is "Either this man was stabbed to death with a spoon, or his entire body is breaking out in little smiles."

    I searched and searched for the clip and finally found one link, just one...

    That was me having asked the same question a decade prior.

  • I absolutely feel sympathy for young men. They didn't ask for any of this either. And they might have to do some work on themselves to get to a healthier place.

    I certainly struggled with relationships, to the point of not understanding signs of clear interest.

    It's hard to notice this stuff when your head is down with despair.

  • I'm fifty as well, and I can be fairly certain my wife would not have risked dating me in the current political climate.

    We were both a bit older and she had never had a very serious relationship prior to meeting me.

    Who knows how the math would've played out? My life was a wreck and she took a gamble on me.

    I've made sure that gamble paid off.

    But nowadays the odds have changed.

    A lot of men will say whatever they need to so they can get laid. Or think they really believe it until the relationship is threatened.

    It's not that women can't do all that too but that women now have less ways to extricate themselves from such relationships.

    But yeah, the human libido will take charge sometimes. They're just worried it'll be men taking charge regardless of their wishes.
