  • Maybe stop printing so much and just sell stl files on various platforms like printables, thangs, Etsy, etc. They say sell shovels in a gold rush.

  • There's no reason to use leaded fuel. Lead was just used as an octane booster. People say that it helps lubricate the valves or whatever, but it's a myth. You might eventually have issues if you run e10 fuel because that stuff isn't good for fuel systems in the first place.

  • They're built so that they can't easily be repaired cheaply so that you have to buy a new one. The dealership makes all their money off of predatory financing. They pay mechanics on "flat rate" so there's a gross incentive to recommend work that isn't necessary. Then there's the insurance industry. Then of course police use minor driving infractions to hassle people and generate revenue. The whole industry could just not exist and the world would be better for it. People spend half their salary just to have a car, it's ridiculous.

  • After working on them professionally I stopped liking them. I don't even really like driving anymore. Everything about a car is a scam.

  • Ultimately I used a gel style superglue to fill in the gap and it worked. Even if it doesn't bond to the metal it's just there as a filler. I can't find a replacement part or an stl. There's zero play now and I'm getting good prints. I see a lot of other issues happening long before the bearings go bad.

  • It's a good skill to know so you don't get ripped off. You can find the most likely culprit and look up the book time and parts cost. Then go to the mechanic and don't tell them you know. Just say the light is on. If they come back with some wild price for the issues, then you can tell them to put the car outside and you'll come pick it up.

  • When I used to be a professional mechanic I solved many issues by simply reading the manual after checking codes. My library has access to the Chilton online manuals for free, there's also google. I've also diagnosed issues by reading Amazon reviews for parts after reading codes.

  • Accommodation requests have to be reasonable. If the wheelchair won't physically fit in the car then you can't force the driver to drive an accessible vehicle at all times. That would be unreadonable. Though they can't deny rides to people if the wheelchair could fit in the trunk or whatever.

  • The one thing to be careful with swaybars is that it can make the car oversteer/understeer especially in snow/rain. Oversteer in fwd cars is fun because you don't want to let off the gas and transition the weight off the rear. I used to auto-x a dodge neon. I would pump up the rear tires so I could get the car to rotate, of course I had to stay on the gas through long sweepers or it would come around.

  • After driving a lowered car with stiffer springs for a long time I wound up just keeping my koni struts and putting stock springs back on. Still handled amazing and was a lot better to drive. You don't realize how much the jostling and vibrations affect you, but I find that having a quiet and comfortable car is better for my well-being. I had a Volvo xc70 for awhile and it was the best of both worlds, unfortunately It was nothing but problems reliability wise.

  • Back in the day you could book computer time at the local library in my town. I would walk to the library by myself so I could play Oregon trail on an apple iie. Honestly I'm glad that kids have access to the equivalent of the Library of Alexandria in their pocket, but I do miss the days of pre social media and the 24 hour news cycle.
