    I'd say you don't even need the approval of everyone living in an English-speaking country. It's not like the US and UK use all the same words, for example. I think it's fine for one English country to unilaterally rename them, no need for wider approval.

  • Mbin doesn't directly merge threads together, in the Piefed sense where the comments from all threads appear on the same page. It does however group duplicate posts together. For example, I'm looking at this, I don't see the comments on the other threads here, but I DO see there's four other threads linked.

    Tried attaching an image showing how it looks, not sure if that'll show up in Interstellar/Piefed/Lemmy though.

  • Sites like reddit/lemmy, I feel, actively discourage these sorts of personal connections, since you follow subs or the "hot" algorithm, rather than certain people. With so much churn, it is difficult to remember people's usernames, and therefore difficult to create a real picture of them as a complete human being.

    Worth noting, Mbin is a community-based fediverse project like Lemmy that also supports microblogging and thus following users.

    I personally wouldn't, that's why I use Adblock Plus. But there's a reason everyone started hating on ABP when it started allowing non-intrusive ads by default. Most people do not want to see ads at all, no matter what.

  • AI is a tool. How you use it matters.

    Most people just publish AI output verbatim. That's a 1 usually, clearly slop.

    But it's not the only way you can use AI. You could also use the output as a base to then improve upon yourself. Which I really don't like calling slop. Slop is something that's bad and low effort, which in that case it is neither.

  • Mbin has "loud" subscribing, which notifies you on any post added to a community (or posted by a user). I don't know if Lemmy has something similar, but that really worked wonders for me in making the fediverse feel more alive.

  • A bit of an odd choice, but Half Life 2's episodes.

    I really didn't like the base game, it was a huge disappointment after playing the first one imo. So I expected the episodes to be just more of the same, but they turned out to be so much better than what I expected.

    For anyone wondering how I could not like base HL2, I also think of Halo 3 as being the second worst Halo. I have some odd stances like that.

    But greetings from Cham, I'm on that map of Zug. It's rare to see our canton mentioned on the internet.

  • How often are your windows open? What about during Winter? or during Summer? Do you open windows to let in fresh air?

  • At least once a day. Really depends on the temperature, though. On hot days I open it in the morning to let cool air in, on cold days I avoid leaving it open and only open it temporarily when the air gets noticeably stale, leaving the room when I do so. Inbetween I usually leave it open the entire day.

    Though, I only open it fully in the mornings of hot days. Other times I always leave it tilted only.

  • How should Lemmy & Piefed handle voting activity from banned/deleted accounts?

  • Because it affects visibility of content.

    Read OP's post, they're worrying about manipulation, not karma whoring or harassment.

    Stuff like bots mass up or downvoting a post to promote or hide it.

  • What do you set your Lemmy "type" to: hot, active, new, old, etc.?

  • I'm not using Lemmy, but my default sort is set to "Active". Gives me the most interesting feed imo. Well, comments use "hot".

    That said, I don't usually browse. I have a bunch of users and communities set to notify me on new posts, and I usually already get too many notifications that I don't also feel like browsing the site after looking at them all. Really changed my view of how active the fediverse is.
