  • So their processor is so powerful it somehow reaches out to another universe to use power for computation functions..? How do you even prove something like this?

  • You should seriously consider a bidet. The only thing my toilet paper is good for now is cleaning up whatever the water didn’t get. My rolls last so much longer now since I sometimes don’t even need to use it.

  • There’s also the issue of temperature. Not really in terms of safety but just enjoyment.

Food that’s supposed to be hot or cold (think a hot pancake breakfast or cold ice cream) is going to come to you as if it were sitting out on the table when you arrived at the restaurant, or in the case of ice cream will be a soupy mess that’s no longer ice cold.

And the cherry on top of it all is that you paid close to double for this horrid experience.

  • Not at all. They’ll just beef up security.

No doubt the other insurance companies are doing the same. CEOs are probably hiring personal body guards to follow them too. I’d imagine this extends to CEOs of other industries outside of insurance too. They know they’re all seen as unpopular with most people.

  • Not really surprised for BG but BH surprises me with how simplistic it looks.

Sorry, wish there was something more privacy focused.

  • Yeah I was pretty disappointed the main app on iOS and Android has you create an account to download offline translations.

Like someone else said, I think getting an offline PDF copy would be a good substitute for this.

The BibleGateway and BibleHub websites have always been good for me and I never have to log in. But not sure about them keeping data for anyone visiting. You could visit in incognito to avoid that concern.

  • It might not have been causing any actual health issues, but it felt like too much on the eyes when we were sitting in relative darker areas and for longer periods of times of exposure.

Using the night mode helped a lot with that intense feeling we were feeling. Getting the glasses has helped with the feeling for myself.

  • The salesman at our local Ford dealership was bragging about how his dealership puts a $50k markup on all new Lightnings that hit their lot.

I left and never plan on going back to that one ever again.

Ford supposedly doesn’t like dealerships doing that but I’ve heard of tons of similar stories all over the US.

It’s really crappy we can’t just get a vehicle at a decent price without all the unnecessary bullshit.

  • You should look into some “gaming glasses”. Best Buy has them for like $50 but you can get some off Amazon for $12 instead.

Or you should check into using something like Flux or the built in one for Windows (macOS has one too) for night mode.

We got some newer monitors in the office a few years ago and had to enable it because the blue light was giving people headaches. But the warmer colors helped decrease that a lot.

  • Thankful that my instance is not federated to lemmynsfw. That was so tiring seeing it all the time.

But if you get an app like Voyager, you can have it block that entire instance which is where most of the porn comes from.

  • I would want to know why they felt the need to conceal it from the general population.

  • One of my coworkers was born in Tijuana and goes back there from time to time, once even inviting me to go with him. He has said it’s a nice place to visit. I’ve had family members and friends say similarly about it. My uncle always talks about how good the tacos were when he was stationed in San Diego in the US Navy.

It’s also a big spot for college students to go for spring break.

If anywhere in Mexico is safe, Tijuana is one of the safer places to be.

It has its issues as any big city does, but not to the extent of the other areas that deal with lots of cartel violence. Part of that has to do with tourism and it being so close to the border with the US. A lot of cartels are also very aware of tourism and how it negatively impacts them if they make trouble for tourists with negative publicity and heightened risks from both the Mexican and US governments, at least to US citizens touring there.

  • I want another Splinter Cell game.

But seeing what Ubisoft has become…maybe it’s for the best we haven’t had a new one in 11 years.

Too bad they won’t let someone else make a new game.

    Same for Deus Ex.

  • This is one of many problems with “ACAB” because not every cop is one way or the other.

Reality is that a functioning society needs police officers. It sounds like you hit it off with this person and they have some good qualities that you like.

How do you expect the police to change if we don’t get involved? Getting rid of the police entirely is not a solution. But getting in and making changes from the inside is a valid way to make things better.

Why are you wanting to create an echo chamber for yourself? Why don’t you expose yourself to others and other ideas that are different than yours? What’s the harm there? Are you scared you won’t be able to change his mind or that his ideas might make some sense to you?

  • We hosted some Japanese tourists a few times when I was younger.

My mom and dad got pretty freaked out when they caught one of the older women (young adult age, from what I remember) going into my brother’s room (~age 7-9) and sitting on his bed and looking at him as he slept. I don’t think she actually did anything but it was super creepy. They ended up kicking her out.

Another one at another time got really upset at us and ended up leaving. I don’t remember specifics, I just remember her screaming at my parents and then leaving. I was pretty young when this happened. If I had to guess, I’d say it was because we lived close to a big US city at the time but not within walking distance. But looking at a map might give you that impression and she may have thought she’d get to do more in that city when she couldn’t.

We hosted quite a few groups and most seemed to enjoy their stay and have a fun time. I remember my brother and I getting quite a few gifts from them, small stuff like toys and treats, and getting to hear a bit about Japan.

  • Unless you go out like Jane, choking on your vomit.

  • It wasn’t meant to be an agree/disagree button on Reddit either.

It’s meant for upvoting posts that contribute to the topic/community and downvoting stuff that doesn’t, such as spam or trolling.

  • At what point is it no longer an abortion, though?
