  • Yesterday was the 10th anniversary of the Charlie Hebdo shooting. What is your opinion on the freedom of satire in general and the satire of religion in particular?

  • Why doesn’t the same happen for Hinduism? It’s mocked relentlessly and is predominately practiced by non-whites, perhaps even more so than Islam, but we never hear any worries of racism for it. Why do we worry for one religion and not another? What about Judaism? It’s perhaps the most mocked/satirized religion throughout history and the only one that actually shares its background with a race, but we never worry about racism towards it like Islam?

  • We pull back too much because Islamic nutjobs will get violent because you dared draw a picture that resembled their stupid prophet. By doing that, we are giving them what they want and telling other religious groups that if they get violent enough, we’ll stop to appease them too.

    You can mock Jesus, Moses, Krishna and any other religious figure because their followers, at worse, are going to verbally protest, if they do anything at all. But draw fucking Muhammad and people will tell you to knock it off because we don’t want to upset the assholes who will riot and kill people because they can’t handle someone having a differing opinion. Society bends over backwards to not offend Islam out of fear.

    In response, we should have doubled down. Make more cartoons, get more vulgar with it…go all in, not stopped to appease them. Some people did for a while immediately after the attack, but not enough and not long enough, imo.

  • There’s an app I got for Plex for my Meta Quest 3 and I gotta say that it is top notch. They have a bunch of settings for how you’d like your environment to look like but I prefer the one that makes you feel you’re at the movies and it really does feel that way.

    Not sure if that’s what you were getting at or not but I enjoy it when I’m out and about instead of using my iPad or iPhone.

    Downside is that you need to sideload this which requires a Meta developer account (free, just unnecessary hassle) as far as I know. Other is that it requires Plex and not the native Netflix/etc. app. Though YouTube has a similar format in their official app.

  • Getting a new LEGO set and going home. I would spend the entire trip home analyzing every little bit of that box even if it was dark until we got home. I couldn’t wait to finish unloading the groceries and then going to my room where I would kneel by the bed and unload all the plastic packages all over the blanket. I’ll never forget the way those bags with holes used to feel and sound as I’d crunch each of them and open them up.

    Then I’d get the book and spend the next 30 minutes to hours building it and then admiring it before playing with it with the rest of my collection.

    I get tempted every now and then to buy another when I’m at the store. I bought the Skyline car recently and that was fine to put together.

  • I really wanted to like it, but the data speeds felt so slow for some reason. I was with T-Mobile and Spectrum before and after them and never had the same slow speeds I did with Fi.

    I really liked the option to have two SIMs on the same line so I could have an included mobile hotspot wherever I went without having to rely on my phone.

  • AT&T. I had never had them before and been with all the other big names. They’re okay, not as great as some have said. I’ve been lucky to not experience the most recent outages and I also joined after the leaks occurred but the service is still the same as the others, in my experience.

    But I am looking to leave them soon and possibly go with Helium or another small time carrier. $80 a month (more like $100 after all the bullshit fees) is absurd no matter how you slice it. And the other two are charging the same so you really have no choice anymore except the smaller carriers that run off the same networks.

  • Do people really do that and get away with it? I’ve heard eBay usually sides with buyers and the scams are more likely from buyers on sellers. I’ve disputed a few times on eBay (for legit reasons, like 3 times) and always won the dispute as the buyer.

  • They’re just bids so this is common. Gotta start low so you can let people battle each other out and eventually get to the price you’re most looking for as a seller.

    But it’s also common that if this auction were to end at these low prices, the seller likely is not going to just let it go as eBay lets sellers set a threshold and if that threshold isn’t met when the auction ends, they have the option to cancel the sale.

    So even if you were to win at one of these prices, you’re not guaranteed to get the graphics card at this price. Though you could have a seller who doesn’t care or is willing to let it go for lower than they expected, so not totally out of the realm of possibility.

  • I mean I want one but the only reason I don’t have one is because I’m not paying $3500 for one. And even if I could get one used for under $1000, I’m still not because a majority of customers feel the same way, so this was DOA for that reason alone. No developer is developing anything fun for this en masse with no customer base.

    I think a majority of people are in this boat. People flock to anything with the apple logo on it, but this was just too damn expensive.

    That headset is more expensive than most MacBooks, just for reference.

  • One of the Sims neighborhoods. Would love a real life money glitch and able to literally make friends and romances.

  • The Batman. Robert Pattinson is not that great of an actor and I still can’t unsee him as that stupid vampire. I know he doesn’t care of the role either, but it really ruins the flow trying to imagine him as Bruce Wayne but all I can see is that cringey vampire. And then it’s just another fucking Batman movie as if we haven’t already had 10 other ones played by 12 different actors already, not including the TV show adaptations and cartoons too. DC needs to seriously stick with one adaptation and go with that or make some about some of the lesser known comic characters.

    I know it’s the one that is more closely aligned to the comics and he is actually being a detective. But it was so boring and uninteresting.

    I remember sitting in the theater and I kept checking my watch for when it would be over. I was with other people and also was curious how it would end. But it kept dragging on much longer than it should have.

    I’ve tried rewatching it since but I still can’t get into it.
