  • Stop straw manning, nobody said it will be the apocalypse or the end of the world, they said it would be a dystopia or at the very least pretty shitty to what we have right now.

This is like telling a Roman as the empire is falling: "don't worry it's not the end of the world, sure a barbarian horde might come through every couple years raping, burning and pillaging, but you'll survive"

Natural disasters are gonna get worse, famine and food insecurity are gonna become more common, mass migration causes a lot of social strife. Again going back to the roman example a large reason for the fall was the huns moving into Europe causing cascading migrations that destroyed the empire. All of this sounds pretty dystopic to me, maybe not mad max levels, but definitely parable of the power levels.

  • Milk, given an unlimited supply i won't have to worry about it spoiling. Gives a decent amount of nutrients and water and can use it to make cheese or butter eventually, And is a life without cheese and butter really worth living?

  • Honestly a lot of what the article points to isn't that bad and wouldn't be out of place in a lot of the sfw moe communities here. They even reference a "topless women" which is just a picture from the shoulders up of some ai slop galaxy women.

Yeah fuck Elon and his nazi ai but I don't think he's posting gooning content, or at least I don't think i could goon to it.

  • It's not even just the bad they're not showing, they aren't showing anything outside of a suburban straight white guys point of view. Which does reflect a lot of 80s media but doesn't reflect the experience of a lot of people in the 80s

  • Seems they want to spin those off into opt-in private clubs where you pay dues. Which i guess is fine for single family detached houses, idk how this could manage building maintenance for multi-unit buildings though.

  • This is the same guy who tweeted that the progressives on San feanciscos city council should die a slow painful death.

  • Yeah, let's put up another California democrat that's too centrist to attract progressives and too California to attract middle America, it worked so well last time...

  • Nah, The more you learn about mormonism the more you realize how stupid it is.

It's more like vegans, the more you learn about it the more you realize they're right but you don't switch out of convenience and familiarity. The preachiness and eir of superiority is annoying though.

  • If llms are juiced up auto complete then humans are juiced up bacteria. Yeah they both have the same end goal, guess the next word, survive and reproduce , but the methods they use to accomplish them are vastly more complex.

  • California may redraw its maps* Gavin can't actually do this unilaterally unlike in Texas and this will be put to a referendum on the November ballot.

The ballot measure won't be a sure thing even though California is very democratic, 38% voted for trump in the last election. It'll be a very off year election as well so turnout will probably very low and only those who are motivated. So the question is whose more motivated, the anti-trump resistance who want to stop him at any cost, or the conservatives in the state who are effectively having there representation taken away.

Maybe one good outcome of this is the conservatives will feel so unwelcome they'll actually follow through and fuck off to Texas and help ease the housing crisis.

  • You're all cowards I'm rolling the dice on C and I'll be chilling in Tokyo with my waifu body pillow while yall get eaten by snakes in K.

  • Yeah but since it's population based it's a coin flip of whether you end up in India, Bangladesh, Pakistan instead, which are kind of the opposite of what you mentioned.

If you really want to live in China, pick E. The population is probably dominated by large Chinese cities anyway (chongqing, Wuhan, Hong Kong and shenzhen) so you'd probably end up there.

  • The old division was nato/capitalist block was first world, soviet/communist block was second world and everything else was third world.

The soviet union may be gone, but a lot of the countries that used to be a part of it are still at the same relative standard of living between the developed west and the underdeveloped global south, so could be considered "second world". The biggest example is, of course, russia; yeah, not the best standard of living but a lot better than what a lot of the world is getting.

  • I don't think Bernie is getting cheque's from aipac, think he may be more motivated by aipac dumping money into a rival candidate. Although his term isn't up until 2030, and by then he'll be 89, so hopefully he won't be running for re-election anyway.

  • I've never been to Alabama but I'll still shit on it because I've seen statistics and stories about how bad it is there. Same with Republicans. California is definitely one of the better states to live in by most metrics but it does have huge wealth inequality combined with its large population means there's no shortage of people in poverty and statistics and stories from that group that fox News can shove in the face of there audience and pretend that's how everyone in California is living.

  • I agree, that's why I hate shit like this, it just further entrenches the current system and allows both parties to continue ignoring calls for change. The democratic party have proven they're not gonna be the ones to change the underlying structures of the current system as they benefit from them almost as much as the republicans.

  • That's the line democrats always give whenever they want to force through an unpopular item. They said that would happen if trump got elected the first time, and when he got re elected but here we are saying that the second half of his second term is when hes actually going to destroy democracy. Don't get me wrong it's a shit situation, especially for the poor and minorities, but the system has not collapsed. This is because established powerful corporate interests don't want the country to collapse, and they're the ones who call the shots. It's why trump chickened out on the tarriffs, they won't let him run the country off a cliff.

Even if trump is an existential threat to democracy, 5 extra seats from California isn't going to stop him. We'd need a supermajority in the senate to impeach him, and that's not happening. If he is going to try to subvert the election then this sort of move only helps his case as it discredits California and allows him to call all the representatives from there invalid. In what case are these 5 reps going to save democracy?

  • That game theory assumes only two agents though, the republicans and the democrats, when there is a third agent that is losing if this escalates, the democratic will of the people. If Texas gerrymanders to win 5 seats and California gerrymanders to win 5 seats then it's not just a wash as the people of California have lost there right to determine there districts democratically.

If anything both sides have a perverse incentive to gerrymander to further entrench there power in the areas they already have and make it harder for challengers, again at the cost of the people's democratic will. Tit for tat assumes there's some cost to the agents to incentivize stopping, but the democratic party of California may not necessarily care about Republicans getting elected in Texas, especially if there gonna get a majority in the house anyway, which all signs point to that outcome. They do care about getting democrats elected, and this tit for tat will help them with that, so they have an incentive to escalate.

  • Everyone a month ago:

gerrymandering sucks, the two party system sucks

    Everyone now:

let's let the democrats gerrymander all they want and further entrench their power to secure a "win" in 2026 that we're almost definitely gonna get any way

$5 says this new map just happens to get rid of progressive districts too because "they have to spread out votes to cancel Republicans."
