  • Ok, but the alternative is every male in the Pentagon doesn't get testosterone supplements, so we all gotta pitch in.

  • They probably truly believe the line, but just with a heavy accent on the "me."

  • Not even a tax. A double tax.

We pay the tariff when it's levied in higher prices for goods.

Then we pay the tariff in reimbursements from the government to the corporation after the tariffs are struck down.

And Trump. Just. Keeps. Doing. It.

This is a guy playing poker with other people's money with his cards facing the wrong way, and he just keeps doubling down.

  • I wish there was a way back to a reality run by (1) adults who are (2) not gaslighting psychopaths.

  • Great! I can now enter a prompt into a data-center-hosted LLM, "do my job," and the data center will conveniently also store the resulting fraudulent work product in the same location, while I relax at home on a permanent unpaid vacation! So convenient!

  • Republicans: Yes, I support this, because I am from America and obviously it means they'll kick out everyone but us.

  • No, you don't get it, Musk has a plan.

    • Step 1: It fails utterly and completely.
    • Step 2: Musk goes on Twitter/X, and says, "Had to add more math to training data."
    • Step 3: CSAM and MechaHitler for some reason.
    • Step 4: Musk demands to speak to Grok's manager.

After that, it's basically a straight line to success.

  • "I have four appendages and a mouth, and leopards have four appendages and a mouth. I thought they'd see me as one of them!"

  • People always forget to exercise their bone muscles.

  • Honestly, this is the eventual fate of every corporate streaming service.

The only reliable answer is to self-host it via Jellyfin or (if you have a Plex Pass already for cheaper than it is now) Plex, or another similar system. PlexAmp's suggestion system, self-hosted "radio," Sonic Adventure and other features really leave me quite content to never waste another second on streaming services that aspire only to be the biggest leech that is hardest to remove and has access to the most customer blood.

If you have an issue with piracy, you can still buy MP3s or FLACs from many services, or rip your own CDs. Unless you have a local, DRM-free copy, it's always one expired license away from disappearing forever, and one ambitious employee away from being overrun with ads and your private details sold.

  • Mamdani: invests political capital in community, earns dividends of public goodwill and voter support, reinvests it in community.

Trump: uses a commercial xerox bought with billionaire donor and foreign money to print cheap fake political capital, blows it on plastic gold-painted bricks for himself that he thinks are solid gold, prints more when it runs out.

Schumer and Jefferies: Found a magic incantation 15 years ago that created enough political capital to buy a donut. They keep repeating the incantation even though it doesn't create any more. They have kept the capital stashed under their beds for 15 years waiting for the perfect donut to spend it on, thinking everyone will be so grateful when they share it, even though by now it can only cover a donut hole.

  • Yep, the most fundamental grift for Trump is converting the credibility of the office of the presidency or the country in general into credibility for his money or power scheme of the moment. That's what this primetime address was.

In the future, primetime presidential addresses (under Trump but also after) will have less credibility, because that broadcast spent some portion of it.

And if course his goal is to spend all the credibility of the presidency and US on himself before he dies, because that's just good narcissist math.

  • The post cuts off - I suppose archive.is is the only option?

  • Yeah, I suspect Google pushes changes to the backend OS that keep breaking it on purpose, but at least we've got it to stick on our two TVs with a lot of effort and setting changes. Least worst option considering how pricy mini-PCs are, unfortunately.

  • The best cheap solution is a Google TV with Projectivy launcher to bypass the adware.

The best fully non-adware solution as others said seems to be a mini-pc running Linux or other cleaner environment you set up.

  • What have you done? The point of my post was to remind you that there is no single American monolithic moral entity.

As an individual, you and an American have the same moral agency and duty to correct a wrong that you did not directly create. Likewise you share the same collective blame. So tell me, why haven't you done more? If you think the question is absurd, you've just explained to yourself why it's absurd to hold an individual American who hasn't personally solved Trump to blame for Trump.

Again, some Americans do deserve blame. A lot of them in fact. Which ones? The ones who support and acted in support of Trump. It's pretty simple actually. Moral reasoning doesn't have to be hard, but you have to put in the effort rather than just say what makes you feel good and righteous.

  • Don't forget that we are being run by a mafia-wannabe, and every "protection" demand is also a threat.

This is the equivalent of "It'd be a shame if something happened to your nice flower shop. But if you do what we say we can protect you." And it also may very well be a signal to the lawbreakers in and out of government to demonstrate that the violence will continue. I don't doubt a Proud Boy could see this as a suggestion to shut a Democrat lawmaker's mouth.

  • They are really the most pathetic of the pathetic.

Not only are they people who can't face how worthless they actually are so blame their problems on immigrants, and not only do they lack the imagination to solve problems without violence, but lack the backbone to do it without being protected by the entire federal government.

The country is being run and policed by people who could not meet the standards of a McDonalds employee.

  • I'm sure people are suffering, but I think we all have to agree that as long as Donald Trump continues to speak, it will only be the second worst diarrhea outbreak this century.
