It is common behavior for a lot of consumer IoT devices. If it goes on your network and you don't control the software, you should consider it compromised. Even if the manufacturer isn't doing outright malicious stuff, it likely isn't secured very well (they never are) so there's every chance that someone else could find it and use it as a platform for malicious activity.
Typically yes, hourly wage earners get holiday pay for working on holidays:

(c) An employee who is entitled to holiday premium pay and who is required to report for work on a holiday shall be paid at least two hours of holiday pay whether or not work is actually performed.
Maybe, but current plastic recycling methods still require significant pre-cleaning, and if the material is too contaminated it just goes to landfill. It also still has to be properly sorted, and one item of the wrong plastic type can ruin an entire recycling batch.
For this process, I think that won't matter so much. The yeast will eat what they want and leave the rest, which can be filtered out later.

If I, as an individual, took it upon myself to install surveillance devices in peoples' vehicles and collect behavioral data on them, without their knowledge and explicit consent, I would be (rightly) held criminally liable for that. If there's no bailout, the lenders don't get paid, and the lenders lose almost everything. The employees of the AI companies will lose their jobs. The companies that have been doing significant business with the AI companies will lose all that business.
