  • Nobody wants my info dump. I know way too much about networking and computers. The topics are massively deep, like iceberg levels of deep. One for each topic.

I could lecture for an entire day on the nuance and considerations of picking a Wi-Fi channel, or you can ignore me and just hit "auto" which may or may not take some, or all, of my considerations into account when selecting a channel.

If anyone is keen to hear some generally good advice about home networking, here's my elevator speech:

Wire when you can, wireless when you have to. Wi-Fi is shared and half duplex, every wired connection is exclusive to the device and full duplex. If you can't Ethernet, use MoCA, or powerline (depending on what internal power structures you have, this can be excellent or unusable, keep your receipts). Mesh is best with a dedicated backhaul, better with a wired backhaul. Demand it from any system you consider. The latest and greatest Wi-Fi technology probably won't fix whatever problem you're having, it will only temporarily reduce the symptoms and you won't notice it for a while. Be weary about upgrading and ask yourself why you require the upgrade. Newer wireless won't fix bad signal, or dropouts.

For everything else, Google. That's how I find most of the information I know.

    Good luck.

I'll be around in case anyone has questions. No promises on when I'll be able to reply tho.

  • Won't anyone think of the shareholders!?

For real though, I had a job where the management team tried to motivate us by setting "shareholder expectations" or some such nonsense. Obviously this didn't work. Also the company was small enough that pretty much everyone working there personally knew all the shareholders.... Because they also ran the business. They were the managers.

The balls it must take to be a shareholder, and to be known as a shareholder then talk about shareholder expectations like those are for a different set of people that isn't just you... Gotta be massive...

  • Nah, let's privatize all the services you need to have a functional home. That way the companies can extract maximum value from the customers.

    Brilliant.

  • That's pure skill. You are amazing at converting Ambien and whiskey to felonies.

Possibly the best turnaround for this exchange I've seen. Congrats.

  • Look. I have no problems if you want to use AI to make shit code for your own bullshit. Have at it.

Don't submit that shit to open Source projects.

You want to use it? Use it for your own shit. The rest of us didn't ask for this. I'm really hoping the AI bubble bursts in a big way very soon. Microsoft is going to need a bail out, openai is fucking doomed, and z/Twitter/grok could go either way honestly.

Who in their right fucking mind looks at the costs of running an AI datacenter, and the fact that it's more economically feasible to buy a fucking nuclear power plant to run it all, and then say, yea, this is reasonable.

The C-whatever-O's are all taking crazy pills.

  • Having children demonstrates one of two things: wealth, or intelligence.

On one hand, if you can afford to overcome the obstacles, children seem like a good idea, usually from family wealth, since nobody is going to become wealthy. You're either born into it, or you're extremely lucky and you win the lotto or something, which is so unlikely it's hardly worth mentioning.

On the other hand, if you're too dumb to know how fucked we all are, or you're too dumb to use protection in some form.... Well. Yay kids? Idk.

Everyone with somewhere close to an "average" IQ, or better, who isn't part of the upper class with family wealth, is basically represented here.

  • And if you don't sin, then Jesus died for nothing.

  • I won't argue with you there.

My entire point for my comment from earlier is that I don't know what a "healthy weight" is for that person. I also won't assume that "under 200lbs" is either above, or below, that amount.

I didn't make any assumptions about it. My comment being "if it makes you happy?" Is more of a question of, if being under that weight is bringing you happiness. Because I will neither speculate, nor assume, what a healthy body weight is for that person, and I'm not going to ask for their private medical information on what a healthy weight is, so my only hope is that they're happy about the change.

I probably could have said it better, but it would not have been as terse.

I find that the more terse I can be, the better my comments tend to do. It would seem that most people don't want to read an entire encyclopedia for an answer to a relatively basic question. The issue I have is that, when I include context, I want to make as few assumptions about the reader as I can. About what they know or don't know, or if they are familiar with medical terms or caught up in colloquialisms. Clarifying each point to the extent I need to in order to accommodate for those assumptions I am not making, is a verbose task.

  • Possibly.

I wasn't about to jump to that conclusion.

People just focus so much on a number on a scale, when the focus should be on being healthy. Sometimes weight is a part of that, sometimes not.

I've met people that couldn't weigh more than 100lbs soaking wet, yet they're unhealthy to high hell, and frequently paying the (medical) price for that. Meanwhile, I've known people who can't, by any means, get below 200lbs and they're in near perfect health.

    Weight does not equal health.

Being healthy doesn't require that you are a particular weight.

  • "when I'm wrong, I say I'm wrong" .... This is a statement of intent. That you will say you're wrong, when you are wrong...

This is not an admission of fault. This is not saying "I am wrong".

Way to dance around saying the one thing that actually matters in this whole damn thing..... And.... You're sorry? I don't want your sorry. What will your sorry do for everyone fucked over by the rapist convict you put in the Whitehouse?

Fuck you. I hope the leopards eat the rest of you too.

  • I can't stop laughing about it, though I hope that Kitty was able to get back to a more typical size.

  • Weight thing: meh, if it makes you happy?

    Glucose thing: fuck yeah dude.

  • Why all the construction? Is he building 11 ballrooms?

  • I'm definitely of the mind that "if hell exists, we're already there".

I also believe that reincarnation is possible, and if you combine those two things, and "heaven" is being able to leave this place and not come back.

I don't know what's actually out there. I know what I believe to be out there and I obligate nobody to agree with me on that. I also think that athiesm is a more likely factual belief versus any religion that uses a text book to dictate their thoughts; but like with many things, I believe the truth is somewhere in-between, in the unknown chasm that science is trying to fill.

My beliefs will always be that science is fact, any "faith" I have beyond that is just an educated guess at best, and when science proves something I used to believe was different than what was proven, then I am wrong and my beliefs must change accordingly.

It's a wild world, and I'm tired of suffering it, but someone put me here and unless I take "the easy way out", I'm stuck here for another few decades at least, barring any unforeseen circumstances.

  • My logic is along the same line.

I didn't ask to be here, nobody asked if I wanted to be here. Being here, I kinda wish I was given that choice so I could say no.

Why would I force someone, who I supposedly love, to suffer through gestures at everything this? I love my potential children more than to condemn them to dealing with the children of those wealthy enough to have them.

  • Most non-tech-enthusiast people do.

    And that's my point.

  • A cue is a marker point, usually for media production. It can be used in several contexts.

Queue would be a line, more or less.

I'm being reductive, of course. Just trying to help people who are too lazy to Google or look at a dictionary.

  • And I can buy this configuration off of a shelf at best buy?

  • You monster.
