  • If memory serves, it's literally the most watched news channel in America and impressively, still watched by a swathe of independents.

    But much more importantly, the ads that Republicans will run based on the interview will go well beyond Fox news.

  • As a middle aged man, playing soccer. I fell back into it just before I hit 30 and have made a boatload of interesting friends from all walks of life in the decade since. It's also a lovely mental yoga, for an hour several times a week I don't think about work, politics, life of anything, just keeping a dumb ball out of my dumb net and helping others put it in the bad guys' net. Physically, to keep playing I've had to stay in shape, which is a lot easier when it's directly related to a fun hobby instead of a vague concept of being healthy.

    We've been at it so long that a couple teammates who met playing have just had their first kid.

  • I had a magnificent stretch where I was working night security "guarding" a tent full of stuff. On day 1 manager explained the essentials: "stay sober and bring a lot of movies or whatever."

  • Exactly. Like, the folks at my grocery store who basically have all the fruit and veggie codes memorized. Like, yes, it's absolutely a skill and one which I do not have, but it is also one that they fully expect to be able to teach to anyone who works there.

  • Ai is viewed as a national strategic resource. Laws/lax regulations which favour American ai growth will be encouraged, any serious competition, especially from a true geopolitical rival, will be blocked as best as possible (e.g., all of America's chip export restrictions on China.)

    That being said, Bessent probably won't do a damn thing. America just publicly lost a trade war w China and is now losing an actual war. I could still see trump's belligerent ass trying something but I'd giggle with anticipation about how he'd have to walk it back within the week.

  • Yeah but the fediverse is still so small that I would miss a lot of content.

    My current set up is to watch for .ml posters/comms and avoid commenting. For other, less immediately obvious folks, I'll tag them with a pukey emoji after an unpleasant interaction and generally avoid engaging.

    The thing that set up has really brought home is that while there are many folks I find aggressively ignorant, they may still post fun stuff in more neutral, non politics subs. Really eye opening how much I can vehemently disagree with someone in one context and have them be perfectly fine and even funny in another.
