I do like Mastodon as a platform, but it seems nobody really bothers to actually use it for communication. Just drop-posting updates on things with zero replies.
Maybe since it doesn't have all the addiction patterns or algos like other apps do? I'm really not sure.
I was considering going through the hassle of setting up a Mastodon server for me and my family and friends only but... something tells me I'd run into the same problem lol.
...People just seem too busy and tired and scattered on 15 different incompatible social apps and geographic locations to bother with each other anymore. :(
Hehe yeah I guess that's what I meant. Just making a statement on how software has become I guess, and maybe a bit about how highly permissive licenses might have unintended consequences.
The open source spirit is one of the shining jewels of the human race, but it really sucks that I don't think any of those "You aren't allowed to use my code to make the world a worse place" clauses would actually hold up. =\
Honestly bidets are super fancy but you could just go with a "bum gun." Little gentle water sprayer you attach to your toilet line and voila. Got mine for like $20-$30 or something.

Sometimes I wish I got dopamine for solving business problems. I'd probably find myself in a lot more situations where people are willing to hand me money. XD
But yeah, software engineering is totally a thing. Like you said, it's just somebody (hopefully) carefully creating tools to solve particular problems.
Would be kinda cool if we could get People Who Know What They're Doing(TM) to just...rebuild stuff from the ground up, untainted by slop. Haha a guy can dream.
Yeah, that's what bothers me so much. It doesn't get "smarter" or imagine novel solutions. It simply has access to everything that's already existed.
I'm scared we're gonna have already experiencing some kind of intellectual slump because handing everything to the machine built on existing knowledge...doesn't yield any new ideas.
I'm sure they're still banking on human brains having new ideas, so they can simply steal them and feed those new ideas to the machine. Then they'll tell the ideator their brain is irrelevant thanks to the industrialized intellect-theft device.
What really pisses me off is having lived in Las Vegas, where they shut the whole Strip and a bunch of surrounding areas down for this race. Not sure if they do it every time but they also shut down the famous Bellagio fountains and covered the view with ugly scaffolding!
For the race itself, not only can you only watch it via a subscription stream, they also block off any local infrastructure with a view, such as the pedestrian bridges, so that the only eyes able to actually see the thing happen in our own city on our own streets paid ~$2000 for the privilege.
The classism on display is insane. The city is all about entertaining the obscenely wealthy globalist class, and the people that make it all run are serfs.

I'll have to look again, I should have specified I'm in the US but it used some kinda integration that was common for EU banks but not US ones, so I had to import reports manually.
Oh sorry, what I meant was there's a standard to do that with European banks, yeah, but US banks don't have it, so you gotta manually download and import stuff. At least that's how it was last I checked.
