  • You would expect a lot of security measures that aren't actually ever followed at a lot of companies because they cost money. And I don't mewn that the safe costs money. Paying someone to manage the safes and ensure they are used correctly (like no sticky note with the combo on the side). That is where the real cost is.

  • If they were truely "rare" books, then the owner wouldn't have sold it to an AI company. People who collect rare books are usually very choosy about who they sell them to. Now I don't like them destroying books in general, but I suspect the word rare in this article is likely not what most people would actually call rare.

  • I actuaally like the look of the cybertruck. Probably just because it is something different. Most cars eesm to be nearly all the same these days. That said, everything about the cyber truck besides the look is terrible. Soo many rushed choices... and of course there is Elon. I like that he does things regular companies wouldn't. But how he does them is generally horrible. And of course, he is horrible too.

  • Sure, but I assume there are bound to be some loopholes in some laws that don't account for it. DUI is one that DOES. But there are sure to be some that need updates.

  • In a lot of cases, the landlord pays for a management service. That services job is to keep rent flowing and expenses down.That said, cheap repairs make financial sense. Most will be good enough to not cost a ton later, and the few that aren't... well, they usually take a while before they end up costing a lot. So the money is in the hands of the landlord longer, and they can invest it in more properties... so they get all the savings from the cheaper repairs, plus the investment income of that savings. From that they can pay for the things that go horribly wrong. Most of the time it will work out in their advantage. And of course they can always sell the house before the expensive repairs to someone who will do those repairs themselves and flip the house. That is the problem with money based decisions.

  • This is mistaken. They don't ask why tenets hate them. They don't care. Tenents are just part of business, so they aren't people in that case.

    That said, I do know some human landlords, they do exist. They aren't bad people. And they do care about the quality of repairs and such.

  • No, they aren't terrified. These people think they are demigods. I've seen it in plent of senior vice presidents even. It's almost a job requirement at this point. Body guards make them feel even more important, and the company pays for it. Plus... that other tech bro has it, so I should too. That's just the type of people we are dealing with.

  • Anything that involves more than a few hundred people goes bad. So create a new community every time you hit a certain criteria.

  • I think it is more the opposite. They have worked with some people who are terrible at their job. And the idea that those terrible people would get the same pay angers them. And that is the trick. How does a union ensure the people who do a good job actually get paid better than those who don't. The answer is of course that they can't. This is because there is no objective standard for doing a good job in tech. Everyone's idea of a good job is different.

  • I am in favor of it being two charges. I really think there should be a bunch of them really. It's just not one type of crime. It is many. Like raping a prepubescent child is a charge on top of rape, and likely another charge for abuse of trust position based rape as well. The punishment and required treatment are different than for raping a 17 year old who the person held no position of trust or power over (like a 22 year old boyfriend type situation). Currrently they are both just "rape" in some states.
