  • What I hate most about this attitude is a disregard for the fundamentals that make a film hold up over time: the story/plot/world building, way, way, way more than the graphics or other bells and whistles.

Sound design and graphics are very important, but if you're sacrificing dialogue for the vast majority of watchers, for you to have a wank over dynamic range, then you don't have your priorities straight.

They really ought to release multiple audio mixes. This is really getting annoying, and if wanting to hear dialogue is wrong, I don't wanna be right.

  • I'm gonna 180 on this and agree the above comic is fine because our kick off meetings go: "I'm XYZ, I'm this discipline, I've mostly worked on these projects recently"

I somehow got it in my head it was "and tell us something fun about yourself" as well

  • @phutatorius@lemmy.zip @the_riviera_kid@lemmy.world

Depends, even if you're a nice landlord who treats tenants fairly, if you're voting for things that make house prices higher, or the rental market tighter, then you're an arsehole.

If you're using periods of rapid rental inflation to also massively raise the rent, then fuck you. If you're standing in the way of up-zoning, fuck you. If you leave your rental empty for a long time because you're looking for at or above market rents, fuck you.

However, if you're just playing the capitalist game at the kiddie tables (2 properties like juuuuuust counts, maybe), while doing everything else in your power to work against capitalism, then I'm willing to grant there being landlords who aren't arseholes, just people living in the system.

Don't hate the player, hate the game, and hate the players who aren't trying to undo the game in some way.

I'm inclined to agree not all landlords are bad, just most.

  • I'm kinda mad they didn't give him a contrasting smile line

  • Ice breaking is so much easier when you're just chatting, people just chat at the start of the meeting and it performs the same function. It's weird if you make everyone go around the circle and force people into it

  • He did nothing wrong, and even if he did murder the executive, he still did nothing morally wrong all things considered.

It was self-defence of the people.

Violence shouldn't be the answer, but sometimes it just is the answer.

  • Either LLM or quality trolling

  • There being absolute fucks doesn't imply positive and negative fucks though.

It implies we've set a point to measure against which we call zero fucks.

Perhaps there's an absolute zero fucks which can never be reached.

  • Damn, this is some serious beef if y'all are taking it between posts.

Surely internet arguments are siloed to the post. I literally remember none of the usernames of people I've had arguments with haha

  • We really need some consumer protections around emails.

Imagine if your landlord could just intercept your mail on the same way.

    It's part of our identities.

We're living in the Wild-West of the internet

  • The US lacks even the most basic consumer protections it seems.

In Australia, companies still try to give you the run around, but I am extremely confident this wouldn't fly here. Even though I'm not a lawyer.

If you literally can't get a hold of them, they're breaking Australian Consumer Law, that's a slam dunk to charge back the card and dare them to take you to your state's relevant tribunal that hears cases like this. It costs either like $70 to file, you can represent yourself easily, and if you're low-income, it's literally free.

They don't want to waste money on fighting you. If you're confident you're clearly in the right, it's very easy to get a company to back down.

This is a great time to remind everyone to take photos before and after getting a rental car, because otherwise it's your word against them.

  • It's SO funny how apparently for almost 20 years we (as in the west outside the USA) decided that using Chinese cloud platforms or networking hardware was dangerous and to be avoided, but private US companies? Nothing to see here!

Silver lining of the orange man is that maybe countries will wake up and smell the digital sovereignty that we sorely lack.

  • Nah it's most more of the world than just Americans this time

  • We really need to pick one and go with it.

    This is upsetting haha

  • Until I used spell check I wasn't even 100% sure this spelling was made up

  • Yeah all g, thanks for engaging with me :)

  • My complaint is that the warp factor only goes to infinity in the first chart you provided (the old system. i.e. as v –> ∞, fw –> ∞). They changed it from v = fw3*c. So warp 3 was 27c for TOS and ENT: https://memory-alpha.fandom.com/wiki/Warp_factor

Warp 10 being infinite is definitely cannon, just ask the haters what the worst episode of Star Trek Voyager is haha

    https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Threshold_(Star_Trek:_Voyager)

(The headline of this wiki article is a little off, he doesn't travel "faster" than warp 10, he travels at warp 10)

Your second graph literally says "warp 10 is infinite velocity", which is the new system. That there are 10 energy thresholds is cool world-building, but basing your velocity scale on it is annoying and unintuitive. When they use these numbers, unless you crack open a calculator, you have no idea how fast it actually is.

In the new system as as v –> ∞, fw –> 10, and I find that annoying.

  • Whoever changed the warp scale in Star Trek: grumble grumble, warp 9 and warp 9.5 sound barely different.

I dunno about you, but I prefer a scale for velocity where as velocity goes to infinity, so does your scale

  • Honestly at this point, because of first past the post, this probably splits the establishment vote. Which I personally think is hilarious (ranked choice being implemented would be better, of course).
