  • Your eyesight is 20/20

  • Not even sure there is that much will on politicians side. I hope there is, but they are mostly ignorant (judging from politicians in my country) and wouldn't distinguish between Word and Windows. They might be interested if there are elections and public pushes for it. But once elected then it's another song based on US stick and carrot. Mostly sticks from this administration. But I really do hope we start to move and now is the best time possible. Also recently there was data that German Federal Administration is paying Microsoft something like: 2023: 274.091.361,75 Euro 2024: 347.665.579,71 Euro 2025: 481.369.660,77 Euro The trend is not encouraging, isn't it, and those are insane numbers - imagine what could we have for that amount with OSS. There is another neglected area - computer education in elementary school is practically non-existent and tiny-existent in middle school in my country while MS is subsidizing software for government and specially education sector. And so the circle of is closed.

  • Read the news. Extended life for coal power plants, upgrades, department of war signing contracts for buying coal energy etc.

  • I'm so looking to this. There are two big issues in Wayland for me:

    1. Firefox not restoring Windows where they were
    2. RDP clients having problems with multimonitor setup

This feature might solve both (enable them) at same time. 🤩

  • Fingers crossed

  • Indeed, this is really infuriating. They are forcing use to throw away perfectly working hardware in name of profits.

  • That said, I like FP very much, but it'll eventually hit the software block.

  • It all boils down to drivers, if those are not open source (and they usually are not), then phone upgradability depends on them

  • Is there a significant benefit over matrix?

  • Ah, ok, makes sense.

  • It supports both, but X is going through Wayland, not a direct support. At least that's how I understand it.

  • But X support is through Wayland, at just that was my impression. I mean it's not using X11 directly, or is it?

  • I find Lemmy's not much different if not more aggressive 🤷‍♂️

  • Plasma uses Wayland, doesn't it?

  • Wayland client can't decide on which screen and where window should appear AFAIK.

  • Until an ingredient goes bad. And with more hosting you have to cook more and more.

  • No such tariffs in the EU 🥹

  • I'm already using it for months now and it works fine for me. The lack of window positioning in Wayland is a pity, though. That's the biggest Wayland flaw for me.

  • Got it for login, makes sense, but not sure whether multimon really works. I mean when the server doesn't have physical monitors attached. I know I could do the install-try, but if anybody has experience it's even easier. So experience is appreciated.
