    How are mods like this still allowed to "moderate" and run communities here?

  • This happens on Lemmy because we don't have a "flair" method. On reddit you can set up a group for "gun owers" as an example. To post or comment to that group on reddit you have to message the mods and request flair. Your request has to have links to posts or comments that you have made proving that you are a gun owner.

    But on lemmy you can set up a "gun owers" group and constantly have people who hate guns posting and commenting. Your only alternative is to remove their posts or comments or ban them.

    The advantages of Lemmy are 1) being able to see a modlog and know why your comment or post was removed. 2) Lemmy mods rarely permanently ban people which I believe is a vast improvement over reddit.

  • Still don't understand how people continue to "trust" the people who have a long history of predictions that never occurred. It always reminds me of a guy who pays to get "the special picks" for an NFL game. And for years the special picks guy hasn't ever won a NFL bet

  • I wouldn't worry about that. 20 years ago it was predicted by the "experts" that Miami would be under water a decade ago. Nothing has changed.

  • BS. But I've found that a person's educational level doesn't always translate into competency depending on the job. If I could do it all over again I would have gone to school to become an electrian.

  • Yes but they were on our side. The Soviets took huge losses to defeat the Nazi's. The US/UK would never have beaten them if the Soviets were defeated. I'm not praising the Soviets or their government. It's just the facts about how WW2 would have played out if they had been defeated and if hitler wasn't such a moron germany could have beaten them

  • The craziest thing during that period were people who gave aid to the Soviets from 1941 - 1945. They were then called out as communists completely missing the poing that the Soviets were on OUR side to defeat the Nazi's.

  • I don't know if it's genetic or just the way that you are raised. I was simply raised to never get too emotional. And crying was never allowed. I still remember my father saying, "stop crying like a girl." As an adult the only times that I have actually cried were over the deaths of dogs that I had. Even when very close family members died I never shed a tear.

  • The starting point for social media is knowing that it's all a joke. People say (post) things that they would never do in real life. The troll thing is best described as lonely people living miserable lives. In real life they have a horrible attitude and therefore no friends. They also (on the internet) try to idenitfy with a specific group. A group that is cult like in that they have the right answers for everyone. The troll then "enforces" those delusional beliefs on any poster or commenter on social media who disagrees. The troll is incapable as a cult member of having a logical discussion on social media so they simply revert to grammar school behavior and "call names". In addition to "correcting" anyone who doesn't think just like them, they "report" all those who are non compliant with their world view. A truly sad life wasted.
