  • This is great perspective and advice. It's how I learn too. I always felt like a poor performer because in my life I haven't been able to recall specifics after learning something when I compared to others. I've got a complex. But general what you describe is how I recall. Almost in chunks but not specifics.

  • No memory is me being hyperbolic but it's severely limited. So I feel like reading a manual line by line means I get much less out of it but it's a large amount of time invested. So I have to factor in that my retention vs time on task is pretty skewed. It's frustrating. I need to do something a few times to learn. Learning by reading is not great for me. But tech is a very document heavy industry

  • Not to take away how important reading these things are but I hate how people with a functional memory have no idea what life is like for people with poor memory. I would forget everything I read the minute button mashed the keyboard to quit the manual. It's like when trying to imagine what is like living as one of those people without an inner voice. It's such a foreign idea that its a shock when you realize some people don't have one

  • Why create laws if you just sort people out with the media they consume. Happens with right wing everyday. I get you're above it all, immune to it with your stories superior intelligence, not like those idiots. You could never participate in a community where the media shared on it would you ever create a panic or hype about something taking your job, ruining society, sexually assaulting or most vulnerable, leading to some 1984 dystopian society.

    The rich give you this. Someone trying to be rich did. They rich are now trying to prevent us from embracing it. You can do a lot of analysis and content creation with it. It's a source multiplier and something they don't want people using freely.

  • Right most people I meet day to day are maybe a bit interested but don't care much.

    To me this is a chicken vs egg situation. I think a lot of people see this as the media responding to people.

    I think it's the other way around and I'm trying to understand why. To me, it looks certain that the media is agenda setting with AI. I watched this with the war on terror, anti immigration views, Ebola, imaginary waves of crime that never existed. I can see the headlines, the tone, the framing are all so similar. I just don't understand why. It's a powerful tool, my default opinion is always that this technology does balance some power in society and so by keeping it as a tool of the rich while the rest reject it is important culturally.

  • Ok good example. The left took a hard stance. The right adopted it. A lot of right wing people made a lot of money with it regardless of its practicalness. They used that money to invest in each other.

    The left somehow has become Luddites and they're falling behind yet don't see how that mentality is holding hobbling their progress
