  • It gives a talking point that the Dems are just frivolously trying to impeach Trump. If you say you don't care about messaging, you're not playing the game right.

    There's been lots of impeachable shit that came before this that is truly outrageous and they should have impeached over (sending Marines to California?), but this is the same kind of action that many presidents, Democrat and Republican, have taken in the past and it hardly seemed it was going to be successful.

    Edit: It seems there's a lot of people responding to this comment who thought everybody should rally behind Biden and Kamala, and didn't think there was any blame to be laid on the Democrats for choosing terrible candidates.

    This is the same thing. Choose an impeachment battle that makes sense and is clear to everyone. Give people something to drink their teeth into, not the same "Taystee Wheat" you've been serving up and asking us to eat

    But hey, you keep on falling for their fake, token "opposition" and blaming people who don't toe the line. How's that working for you?

  • Well I disagree. I believe it's not what they expect, it's what they want. They are being deliberately provocative to get a reaction, so they may respond. Which they are currently doing.

    Not only that, but we are no longer talking about important policy and legal attacks on freedom.

    Not only that, but any looting or violence will be amplified, and any police or military abuses will be diminished (by the media). The rubber bullet impact photos aren't disseminated, the looting of an apple store is, or a shoe store, or any fire.

    The targeted feedback we receive (through Lemmy and other social media) makes us feel like we're accomplishing something, but it's the social change equivalent of junk food. Like carbon credits, it's not addressing the problem, it just makes us feel better.

    Only my opinion, of course.

    Public protests need to disappear and go underground. The news won't report accurately, at least not in America, and protests are EXACTLY what Trump et.al. are wanting.

  • I agree that AI is ruining search engines (although they were already very bad because they were tweaked for people who paid to be first in results), but they actually can be useful in a situation like this, restricted to a very narrow data set to learn.

  • I went to Linux because it was free and available. I used Linux Mint 22.1 Ubuntu and I didn't find it easy.

    I think it would be helpful to have a central resource with docs and forums tied in to an AI, so you could type in the problem and get an answer without having to resort to search engines - which are getting worse and worse.

  • I wonder if some distro couldn't give a plug-and-play experience for people who don't want the extra security of having to use root and who don't want extra customization.

    Just wall off the sensitive areas and mimic the experience of Windows, but with newer, open software.
