  • When I had that, I solved it by changing jobs. I loved my job, but everyone was stupid about work live balance and stress management. I realized after I changed that I really should have changed jobs sooner.

  • Yeah. I'm still looking for a good answer to create. There's a huge number of technology mods in Luanti, but I haven't found one with the same maturity, yet. If I find one that's close, I may fork and update it, yet.

    I think I'm most of the way to having AE2 replaced, for my needs, using Pipeworks and SWRobots.

  • The one redeeming aspect of how Putin constantly makes enemies is that he'll never ever get to truly relax again.

    Humans aren't capable of keeping track of the number of people he's harmed badly enough that they may someday do him violence.

    He can never let his guard down, and will never be able to trust anyone.

    If that man somehow dies peacefully, I'll buy a lottery ticket the same day, because that would be a whale of a black swan event.

  • The ones old enough to be aware of him are aware of the standard "we don't take money from, or give money to billionaires" advice - for their own protection.

    In addition, I've encouraged my kids not to stand too close to anyone who spends too much time doing "fuck around", just in case that's the day that person reaches "find out", and there's collateral damage.

  • Makes sense. I know there's some amazing Minecraft plugins that haven't been ported to Luanti, yet - and vice-versa.

    Of course, I'm happy to be on an open solution with Luanti.

    But I might run one of these Rust Minecraft engines for a weekend to revisit an interesting plugin sometime, if they reach full stable mod support.

    Now that I'm spoiled by an insanely fast server, I do totally understand the desire to have a Rust Minecraft server.

  • Whatever you do, familiarize yourself with git reflog. It contains all the commits, regardless of your current branch state. Even ones you might think you lost. (For about two weeks until it cleans itself up.)

    In your shoes, I usually abort the rebase and start a new branch and cherry-pick the commits I need.

    It takes awhile, but it's reliable.

  • That's what resonates for me.

    We don't have email instances, and email providers similarly block un-desired content, but there's not a big fuss about missing out on specific types of spam. Lol.

    Similarly Internet service providers actually also block big blocks of malware providing domains, and accidentally sometimes block some great piracy resources. People who care learn to use a VPN or switch providers. Everyone else doesn't have to think about it.

    I'll argue that The Fediverse also carries extremely similar switching cost as an email or Internet provider. For an average user, "Let folks you care to inform know where you moved, and maybe copy over some favorite bookmarks."

    Sure, different providers do try to bring different lenses on the same federated content, but most people aren't served well by thinking about it on day one.

    I think shifting to the term provider is a lot more honest to the user about what to expect.

  • That's fantastic. Provider avoids the mostly baseless FOMO (fear of missing out) that instance can invoke.

    I think provider more clearly communicates that the majority of the desirable content is going to be available the same through any provider.
