  • If I ever see someone wearing smart glasses near me I will slap them off their face.

  • After years of my wife nagging me, I finally got a sleep study done. Turns out I have severe sleep apnea (over 60 stops per hour!) and got a CPAP. It was life changing for me. I never knew how terribly sleep deprived I was. Now I don't snore at all!

  • I mostly like the Mbin UI better than the Lemmy UI and Piefed UI. It certainly looks better IMHO. There are a few annoying bugs in Mbin where images are sometimes not shown, or gifs are shown as static images. Not often, but it happens occasionally.

  • That makes it impossible to activate when in a traffic jam, where it would be really nice (especially combined with adaptive cruise control)

  • Time to move companies? I don't know what sector you are in, but in my sector it won't be long until AWS means you're excluded from procurement.

  • It's already happening. Plenty of companies and public services are moving away from US cloud providers, dragging their suppliers with them. My company is moving to a EU cloud provider too, because our SaaS clients make us. They won't renew multi-year contracts if we don't move with them.

  • Yep. Bought a home that needed work done. Found a great contractor through the guy we bought the new kitchen from. The contractor added an extension to the house, installed new floors with heated flooring system, AC, new ceilings with built in lighting, rewired the house and did all the prep for the new kitchen. He was fantastic.

Now, the guys who did our new bathroom on the other hand.... The people who did the work were great. The ones who sold it to us and were responsible for planning and materials were awful. Wrong materials and bad planning meant several weeks of delay before we could move in.

  • Oh, that sounds nice! How does it work though? Are instances fully self-contained? Or is there cross instance federation or discoverability?

  • Mbin (like fedia.io and others) is also PHP, built on Symfony

  • I can second this. I have my CPAP for about a year now. I had 66(!) sleep interruptions per hour. Yes, the mask can be awkward especially in the beginning. But the result is absolutely worth it. When I woke up after my first night it was such an enormous difference!

Mind you, not everyone may feel such a difference immediately. It may take a few nights or even weeks.

  • Between 5 and 7, depending on when the kid wakes up. I'm a night owl and struggle to go to bed on time.

  • ....no? They are allowed to do that. Chat Control was about making it a requirement for all communication software, breaking encryption in the process.

Edit: scratch that. I read the article again...

  • My cats used to sleep on the bed. But one of them has a tendency to go into the hallway and meow loudly at nothing. So, since we had a kid they had to stay downstairs in the living room. I will occasionally "forget" to close the door downstairs though 😄

  • I really like Gnumeric. It can handle some large sheets and complex cases better than LibreOfficr Calc. But Calc is my daily driver.

  • I have one to power my CPAP when I'm at a multi day festival. Those camp grounds don't have power. So, a literal life saver!

  • Kommisar Rex 😄
