  • Okay so I originally assumed this was probably due to some union rule or something like that. But I didn't find any reference to it in the NALC guidelines, anything in the USPS resources center (which is hard to use), anything in google searches, and the original employee documentation or spec.

    I did find the USPS History section and it turns out they have someone whose job title is "Postal Historian", Stephen Kochersperger.

    But, anyways, I found the address (not email of course haha) for the USPS history office so I have wrote up an letter and put it in the mailbox. I will eventually update yall

  • There is a difference between "I'm frustrated with work so I will be short with people" and "I am going to systematically create a rumor that one of the IT guys is actually bi" or "10 of us are going to gang up on a new nurse and bully her until she leaves crying".

    Those are some of the worst examples but little petty stuff happened all the time. But it was even little things like every time a nurse would walk away the other nurses would talk about how they're putting on weight or being a bad mom or some other nonsense.

    I don't know, like I said this is anecdotal stories. But I've worked a lot of places in a lot of industries and nurses aren't the only ones who are overworked, underpaid, and burnt out. But they are overwhelmingly the ones who act the meanest.

  • Being burned out doesn't mean being catty, intentionally spreading false rumors, forming impenetrable cliques, and just being rude and talking behind each others backs.

    I get it, nurses are over worked and under paid. But so are a ton of other professions and they dont have this same problem.

  • For my anecdotal story, I've never been treated worse than when I was doing IT for a hospital and working around nurses, who were almost exclusively women. God it felt like I was in a mean girls movie or some campy coming of age story about bullying.

  • There is an enormous difference between "police should be held responsible for their actions" and "we should have literally 0 police".

    Believe it or not "ACAB" doesn't mean the latter. Its just a fun little acronym. And just like all fun little acronym or protest chant, it doesn't encapsulate the entirety of the movement, discussion, or belief(s).

Here in my parts of the states (like everything, it varies widely across the country) we have elementary school from 1st-5th grade (so like 6-7 up to 10-11), middle school from 6th-8th grade (like 10-11 up to 13-14), and high school from 9th-12th (about 13-14 up to 17-18, and some school districts are big enough to have a "freshman campus" because they needed more space for all the kids).

    And most kids go to kindergarten the year before 1st grade, and some even go to preschool the year before kindergarten as well.

    Also some quick googling says an average desktop printer can print about 30,000 pages per month, so it would take 20,000 months (~1670 years) to print that out. And a typical toner cartridge can print 3,000 pages and costs $80, so it would take 200,000 toner cartridges and cost $16 million.

  • A few years ago Walmart released a line of gaming computers and the ars technica article I saw was titled something like "Walmart released gaming computers and the prices aren't awful".

    I copied and pasted the title verbatim and the post got downvoted a ton and all of the comments were trying to give me shit for the prices not actually being good (I feel like they were in line with normal prebuilts but oh well).

    The Internet is a weird place. And to be honest, since I left reddit and have been on Lemmy I feel like people here vote with passion instead of based on the content of the post/comment a lot more than reddit. Its one of the only complaints I have so far.

    Criminals. Back in the long long time ago I was a minor drug dealer (just weed) but when I would deliver to some of the bigger dealers, like the kind who had whole operations, they would have police scanners going pretty much all the time. It would give them time to dip out before getting pinched.
