  • My app ( Boost) used to have a "random subreddit" button that I really liked, but it got removed a couple years ago when reddit changed their TOS, but something like that could be really nice

  • For the most part they are. You can find enormous troves of classified documents that have been made public, and a huge amount of once top secret technology and engineering eventually makes its way into the public space.

    sure but the HUD from the F-35 is very specifically designed to work in an F-35. It's very similar, and comes from the same family, as the software running on other planes. But it's not identical.

    And yes, performance limits would be hard coded into the software because the HUD needs to alert the pilot when they are getting close.

    Edit: and that's ignoring the fact that a lot of this stuff comes from private companies so you'll run into things like IP/patent laws

  • I used to think that if you wanted anything harder than alcohol you were gonna have to go to the sketchy part of town and meet with some shady guy in an alley and hope you don't die.

    Now that I'm an adult it's bewildering to me how many people rely on weed/coke/Adderall/alcohol/etc just to get through the day. And it's every career and job I've been in! Everything from a shitty kitchen job to now I'm 1 level below the C-Suite.

  • I'm 28 so not old by any means, but at this point I have an established career with a lot of responsibility and a number of people working under me.

    Very regularly I sit in my office and wonder who the hell decided to hire me for this job. Like I'm just some dumb kid! Obviously it's not true, and imposter syndrome is a hell of a drug.

  • This isn't just good advice for driving, but good advice for life. None of us really know what's going on in each other's lives, all you know is a vanishingly small sliver.

    We all need to be nicer to each other. It's a cold world out there, no reason to keep shoveling shit on top of someone.

  • You can literally just download all of Wikipedia in one go from one URL. They would rather people just do that instead of crawling their entire website because that puts a huge load on their servers.

  • That's only 800x480 though. The BOOX ultra has a screen resolution of like 1900x2400 IIRC.

    plus it has other nice features like it's already made and it's much thinner than your rpi version, and runs a custom android ROM so you can just install android apps.

  • That's the thing though, websites have gone away from "fingerprinting scripts" and have started finger printing you by what you serve, how and when you access it, and other things that they can all collect purely on the server side. The rest is just for advertising and data collection for improvements.

  • This. People who have never been a high performance athlete just don't understand the mentality. It becomes everything, and it's not about the time difference between you and the next guy just the delta between your time and your last time.

    I respect the man who ran a 28 minute 10k last weekend for one of the charity events the city outs on. Beat the next guy by almost 4 minutes.

  • Yeah it makes me laugh when people talk about "don't use cookies" or "block ads" like companies didn't switch to more advanced techniques (like hell, I saw a paper where they could fingerprint you just simply by how you interact with the webpage) 15 years ago.

    There is no way to use the modern web without getting fingerprinted.
